I have visited the dogs homes again today, but still no sign of Foxy, posted again in the local paper and in desperation posted on Martins wall with a plea for his help. I have managed to get a couple of free papers out of the area to put out an appeal.

I had a call tonight to say that someone had seen two Jack Russell type dogs loose about 2 miles away, I drove around but could see no trace. Going back tomorrow on foot with our other dog as there are fields and bridle paths near there. I will let you know how I get on.

Since Solar has been searching for Foxy, and I've been looking on forums for lost dogs for obvious reasons, I'm astounded at how many dogs are lost?
I put the question mark as where do all these dogs go?

I would love a statistician, and there must be one around here, to say how many leave, how many return? And what happens to them?
I looked on a lost dog website, where Foxy was featured, to see 75 pages of lost dogs.
That simply is not possible to lose that many dogs. Where are they going?

As i was saying to Solar, unfortunately a lot of dogs are being stolen - either as a chance theft or to order.

We have had 3 dogs stolen in recent weeks, locally. The latest that I know of was a 8 week old schnauzer pup whos owner left it in the garden whilst she 'ran in to get her phone..'

She came back out and the pup was gone. It was seen being carried down the road ( a road which not many people use at it goes nowhere but woods) wrapped in a jacket. She notified the police & local paper - where the 'new owner' saw the article and took it to the local police station. Apparently this person had been offered it for sale, and bought it??!!

Others go missing, and like Solar thinks might have happened to Foxy, they get found by people who, although in the best of intentions, keep them. Or they are lost without i.d chips etc, and alot of wardens or kennels only keep them 7 days before rehoming them.. :(

For anyone who's lost their dog, I really feel for you.

Specifically for the lost Grey whippet owner, the following advice might be of use. It was given to me by my brother-in-law who runs an animal rescue in Burtnwood, and I happen to live local to you in Alrewas so we're keeping an eye out for your dog.

    1. You should contact everywhere (rescues, dog wardens etc) within a 40 mile radius on a weekly basis. Whippets can hunt and live wild for quite a time and can soon travel a long way and avoid people if it's nervous. So keep looking for months.

    2. Some rescues you could try are Rosedene Rescue 01922 627013, All Seasons 01922 476208, SunnySide Kennels 01902 790618, and all councils as far afield as possible and Dogs Trust. Apologies if you already know of these.

    3. It's important to check as many kennels physically yourself as possible because quite often when you ring up you'll unintentionally be given incorrect information.

    4. Even though your dog is chipped some rescues/kennels don't bother to check and sometimes chips won't register when the dog is scanned.

    5. Go round as many vets as possible and put posters up with a picture and phone details etc.

Went back to search this morning. Found the owner of the dogs who lived at the place next to where they were seen, he now has them back. They are two Jack Russells. I had to check and will respond to every piece of information as one of them may lead to Foxy.
  • oh thank you for all the replies its a week tomorrow since she went missing:( and no news despite everything ,i rang the local radio station yesterday and they put it on air but we havnt had any sign or any sightings nothing :(
  • I am so sorry to hear about you dog. a few 'Missing Pet' threads have been merged as it is useful to keep all the ideas/help on how to find a pet is in one place so nothing is overlooked when a well loved pet is lost :)

if anyone should want a separate thread for a missing pet they can post it in the Arms as well as in this thread

Solar's efforts to find Foxy have attracted some interest from the media and I have gone through this thread today and copied the Foxy posts into a separate thread for her HERE so she can link to it when talking to them :)

hopefully this will also double the people looking for Foxy :)

PLEASE HELP FIND BODO - 18 MNTH OLD GSP MISSING FROM HR9 AREA

    Hi all,

I'm cross-posting this from GSP breed rescue site. I'm sure the owners would be grateful if MSE fans could watch out for and/or help find Bodo.

Bodo is a liver and white 18mnth old German Short-haired Pointer who is in good shape. He is microchipped and tagged.

    Bodo.jpg

Bodo was last sighted at approx. 7am on Saturday (whilst still quite dark). He was on his walk around 300 yds from his owner's house - just south of A449 (Ross-Ledbury Road), near Lyne Down which is 2 miles SW of Much Marcle.

Owners have checked the area, alerted the locals & the police and called down all known badger setts! He would normally come back within minutes - even if he had gone on. Owners are very concerned as he has been away 2 days now.
