how did you manage to get broadband and the light user scheme? I've looked at the bt website says that customers can't be on the scheme and have broadband (incidentally the site also says that you ca n't have the scheme if you have a mobile phone).Bigtimer01 wrote:At our house, we have a one way phone line which only allows incoming calls, hence reducing the monthly cost, then on top of this we have aeven reduced bill as we are on th elow user rate, so we only pay around 15 pounbds every quarter, on top of this we can still have broad band, we'r currently with supanet, but i'm hoping to migrate to orange free bb0 -
I'd also heard of this and rang BT regarding the Light User Scheme and I was turned down to change my phone line because of the mobile and also because the scheme is aimed at the elderly or vulnerable. Pah! Wonder if any other phone company offer it?
Although I wouldn't get the broadband if it's not connected via BT I 'spose

How much does it actually cost to install a phoneline for the internet from scratch? I live in a bedsit which doesn't have a phone socket and I reckon it would be less hassle to install one than having to share with the landlord. Once done, how much would I be expected to pay in telephone line rental? Does this include any free calls?
Thanks0 -
BT installation charge is £125 and then £11 per month line rental, if paid by DD with no inclusive calls.

This must not be with BT, I to have tried the low user approach to be told I would not be allowed broadband. Enlighten us as this sounds to good to be true! Nice one though!! :T0 -

Thanks, espresso. Blimey! I didn't realise it was so expensive to install. A pity that the line installation business is not open to competition.
True, difficult to have competition though when you only have the choice of cable (if available) and BT.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
But the price is actually low compared to the cost of installing a new line. All the copper lines in the ground don't come for free...0
