  • And i bet its very expensive and has a really crap upload on it as well. Its usually the way with Satellites.
  • Please provide me name of Broadband provider in London area , who offers broadband without telephone line.

I know https://www.mynow.co.uk , but they do not provide broadband in HA0 area (Wembley)
  • How would you like one to provide it.

If your neighbours have broadband & you don't want a phone, you could connect to them by wireless & pay a small agreed fee. They would need a wireless router & you would need to be able to connect by wireless, cards can be purchased for around £20 if you don't have on your PC. Their is nothing illegal about this, as you would have permission & your shared connection can be easily secured.

If you need a wireless router, someone with a phone but not broadband, could apply for AOL silver, once wireless router is received cancel AOL, but keep router & they will charge you £25 for wireless router, which is a bargain.

some providers explicitly ban this - especially for resale... I wouldn't do it, because if they did anything illegal to link them to terror, child !!!!!!, etc - then you'll be held responsible

I'm not sure they can ban it, as Oftel have said you can share your bandwidth with up to 20 others, although I agree that resale might be a problem, although I'm sure this can be got around with a voluntary contribution, rather than a contract. Personally I'd be happy to share my bandwidth with a couple of my neighbours, who I'm certain are not terrorist's or child pornographers.

  • In the UK, the telco regulator Ofcom has prohibited the sale of broadband connections to phonelines which are not active for PSTN (ie voice calls).

If you have a fixed line to your house (ie copper phone line provided by Openreach) then you must have this line attached to an active telephone account - ie be paying a subscription of some form for PSTN (telephony) in order for anyone to provide you with a broadband service down it.

Whether you choose to use the voice service on this line is entirely down to you, of course, but you are obliged to pay for the service to be activated.
  • At our house, we have a one way phone line which only allows incoming calls, hence reducing the monthly cost, then on top of this we have aeven reduced bill as we are on th elow user rate, so we only pay around 15 pounbds every quarter, on top of this we can still have broad band, we'r currently with supanet, but i'm hoping to migrate to orange free bb
