I'm with Telewest, have broadband, but don't have any landline.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)
  • Thanks guys -
So... I'm getting alll confused now - if I have BT line installed in the property but I don't have it connected to make calls via BT (or another carrier) then can I get just the broadband?

(Apart from using NTL or Telewest, of course!)

(it's been one of those days and my brain has been fried by work!)

To get broadband from ADSL providers (that's non-cable providers) you need a working phone line running over the BT network (but not necessarily paying BT for line rental, you could be paying the Post Office for example for line rental, but it is still on the BT network as the PO line rental is just a BT wholesale product).

  • Ah, thanks BexTech for clearing that up! Looks like NTL might be the only option in my area - darnit!
  • Im having problems with this aswell.
At current Im with Telewest broadband but dont have a phoneline which is just what I want. However Im moving shortly and the new area doesnt have Telewest and im loathed to pay telephone line rental on a line I never use.

Unfortunately if you have moved into a non-cable area, you will have to have a landline for you to be able to have broadband.

or the other option in satellite broadband,

But this is really quite expensive and probably cheaper to go the BT route and not use the phone,

    but still an option

you still need a phone line for satelitte, unless you yourself also have a satellite to beam the uploads (information you send to request web pages to be sent to you, etc) - most satellite broadband providers say you need a phone line to make use of the upload stream this way

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Your be wrong their Robnye ,you can get Broadband on its own from NTL. or Telewest, without taking a phone line from them.

    See: http://www.home.ntl.com/icat/broadband

"512K Broadband is only £14.99*** per month, and there is no need to take a phone line. Offer only available online until 30th September 2006"

    Or: http://www.telewest.co.uk/websales/service.do?id=2

    " 2mb Special offer £8.99 a month (first 3 months) with a phone service for a year
or £14.99 a month alone (first year)"
technically yes i am wrong, but physically, if you did have a phone line it would run thru the same cable was installed by the cable company for your broadband

    but i stands corrected....... :P
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)
