  • I can echo the 10% offer they seem to be sticking by on the phone. Phoned Sky on Tuesday as was paying £92.40 (£58.25 for Orignial TV with Sports HD and £34.15 for Line Rental, the 1571 voicemail they've started charging for, Anytime calls extra which went up recently and broadband unlimited). I've had a discount in the past but have taken my eye off the ball recently with this and the price has just crept up with all their sneaky increases (£1.25 a month for 1571 voicemail? Seriously?!). With a change in circumstances at home I needed to drive down some costs.

Explained to the operator that it was unaffordable for me at the current price as my wife has just gone on Mat leave so we're on a reduced household income (not a lie) and that for the phone and broadband alone I could move to PlusNet and pay £15.24 including the £75 cashback offer they were doing - so a £20 a month saving here alone. She basically didn't listen to me as she came back only offering me 10% off the TV and nothing else so I cancelled the TV on the spot and have started the switch to PlusNet for phone and broadband on their free broadband, line rental saver and £75 cashback offer.

I might get an offer on the TV but to be honest I've resigned myself to going through with the cancellation now - I've always had Sky (for 6 years) for the sport coverage but it's nowhere near as good as it used to be (e.g. same programme showing on Sky Sports 1 and 4 quite a lot, champions league has gone to BT etc).

Have you checked your My Sky page to see if any offers are showing on there?

That is where mine is, I haven't actually been contacted directly by them.

I am pretty much in the same position as you, only really use it for the sport and at full price that is far too expensive, am also pretty relaxed about the prospect of losing it.

I've had a look on My Sky but can't see any offers. Is there a particular place anything would appear or is it under the bog standard My Offers section?

The sport coverage is nowhere near what it was. I'm thinking I will just suck it up and see if I can live without it and will probably buy a freesat recording box so I don't lose the recording functionality altogether.
  • If the offers are going to appear on your online account it is 10 minutes after the cancelation goes through.
Still seems to be hit or miss about whether people see/get them or not.
I had all my marketing boxes ticked but was NOT getting offers.
The last time I cancelled the operator said the marketing was NOT ticked on their system although was on mine.
She "corrected the problem" and I had the 50% offers within minutes.
Motto is if you cancel ensure Sky (At their end) have you set up to send offers via your account.

I'm not sure if I have but I'm getting other offers on My sky like half price fibre and offers on sports and movies.

But so far nothing on TV :( can I check marketing preferences myself without having to call up?

The offer doesn't appear there. It appears in the main My Sky Home page but when you login it may not go there. Mine always seems to go to the billing page.

To make sure you're in the correct place click on the My Sky tab - it will say My Sky and then underneath Hi your name.

Then there's a separate link near Hi Your name which says something like Your Offers. That takes you to a new page
  • Just a quick update on my recent experience.......

About a week ago I used Sky chat to discuss cancelling the TV side of my contract (different end date on my phone and broadband), and I was offered a 10% discount.
I went ahead with the cancellation and then followed the advice on here to keep checking the 'my offers' section of my online account.
After a week with nothing showing up I used Sky chat to again discuss my cancellation and was offered the same discount again. I declined to renew and checked that I had opted into marketing offers, which I had.
I then remembered that if you go into my account via the interactive button on your sky remote, your offer can show there also.
On this service I had a 50% discount offer whereby all I had to do was press the blue button to renew.
I left it as I intended to discuss the renewal with my wife later in the day.

Art around teatime yesterday I got a call from 01332 387 201 and it was Sky wanting to discuss my cancellation.
She initially offered me around 33% off, but when I mentioned the 50% discount via the sky box she agreed to match it.
She also stated that I could choose between the offer lasting 10 months with no contract (cancel anytime) or for the offer to last 12 months and sign up to a new contract.
I stated that I needed more time to think about it as I was thinking about getting a NOW TV box (which I was), and at this point she offered to put a £100 credit onto my bill.

I have taken the 10 month offer and will have to do the dance again when my phone and broadband contract ends in a few month.

    I hope this helps.

  • I've done similar this week. Original cost was £63 per month for original package inc extra box, broadband and line rental. Out of contract so did it first via chat but found this long winded so called. No joy just 10 % offer. Rejected this and asked to cancel but just the TV element. Left it a few hours and tried again. Much better but had to push hard. First offer 10% then 30% then 50%! I accepted this then at the last second before full confirmation told them it wasn't good enough. Straight away offered me £50 credit. Held out and said I'd renew but for £100 credit. No problem sir.
Rang back the next day and asked for a reduction on my sky talk/broadband. No offers available. Cancelled it all. Left it a day and rang back. Still no joy. Would love to help etc etc.
Email received offering me free line rental for 12 months saving £17.40 per month /£208 per year.
Went back in again and cancelled multi room and immediately got this reduced by £5 a month for 6 months with no committed contract term. Added in the family pack and got a free Samsung Galaxy Tab E worth £139.
So in essence I've achieved a £30 a month reduction, £100 credit so no bills for a couple of months, more channels inc HD etc, a free Samsung Tablet.
A bit of a long winded tactic but overall a couple of hours in total but well worth it by separating out the elements!

I am now out of contract and Sky and they cocked up my last bill, charging me £50 extra when they said they weren't going to after me complaining.

Just been on the phone, asked to cancel, offered 10% off. Declined and asked for cancellation to be processed.

Logged into My Sky 10 mins later, 50% off for 12 months offer sitting there.

Is it advisable to wait and see if they make a better offer?
