That offer the whistleblower reported was for customers enquiring about deals who were "thinking" of cancelling. This seems to discredit the thread which appeared yesterday (but has disappeared) where a 'Sky retentions person' claimed they were no longer able to offer more than a single 10% reduction offer.
To get a decent deal like this you need to have actually cancelled.0 -
Hi there, intruding to reduce the cost of our very expensive phone / broadband / Tivo package - it's about £80 including anytime mobile calls... I'm out of contract. Question is - how do I threaten to leave when I have to buy a new TV etc...?! Are they going to take me seriously and give me a discount..?!
So far they've only offered service reductions plus a bit of goodwill...0 -

Ignore any such threads which appear from people claiming to work for one of the providers. The one in question was the usual weekend trolling and has thus been deleted. No point in discussing it any further. This seems to discredit the thread which appeared yesterday (but has disappeared) where a 'Sky retentions person' claimed they were no longer able to offer more than a single 10% reduction offer.
He just said that "Retentions" were suddenly being prevented from offering anymore than 10% in order to keep people. As above, it was clearly trolling.brewerdave wrote: »What he actually said ,was that offers aren't available if you just phone up on spec. You need to actually CANCEL !!
His post never mentioned cancelling, but the MSE haggling article clearly does. Everyone should simply read that before approaching Sky or the other providers.0 -

You can "threaten" to leave until you are blue in the face, more generous offers won't be made to you unless you actually give thirty days notice.newbiesaver55 wrote: »how do I threaten to leave when I have to buy a new TV etc...?! Are they going to take me seriously and give me a discount..?!0 -
My discounts with Virgin have ended and I'm now paying £91 for xl tv, additional box, sky sports and 150mb broadband. My contract ends next month, however we are hoping to maybe move in the next 12 months to an area without Virgin so I don't really want to sign up to a new contract. Anyone any ideas if I can get some sort of deal without signing up to a new contract?0

If you call SKY TV and tell them you want to leave and they say ok, let them process it. This is when the fun starts. As soon as you are off the phone log on to your SKY account and you will see an offer. The last time I did I got 35% a year ago. Just done it again and got 50% off for 12 months. I might even swap the broadband over to them now as well.:j0

I put in my notice via the phone yesterday but I have nothing in my offers so far.June 2016 - Pair of Brooks Glycerin 14's
July 2016 - Annual family pass to English Heritage
August 2016 - overnight spa break with dinner and breakfast for two
September - BBQ toolbox0 -

While it's not unheard of, the vast majority of retention deals from Virgin Media require you to commit to a new 18 month contract.Rachel_123 wrote: »Anyone any ideas if I can get some sort of deal without signing up to a new contract?0 -
I have been with sky about 8 years
At the moment have one main box and another 2 multi room boxes
Have family with sports ( just for the F1 ) and have a discount on movies, so I'm paying at the moment about 95 pounds per month.
Put in a cancellation on 5 Feb 2016, saying reasons of cost etc etc and better deal elsewhere. Offered a few things, 10% off and then free broadband....( don't want broadband as I have fibre with Virgin )
So my cancellation has gone ahead, and yet I've not heard anything and no offers on my account. Should I be concerned ?
Ideally I'd like a new box, one of the new 2TB boxes and maybe a nice discount.0 -
Is a new 18months the "Norm" or can it be 12?0
