Well its that time of year ring Sky and get a rubbish renewal. I have line rental, BB (40mb) and 2 boxes on family package and they want me to pay £89 . I rang up and best offer is £70.25  even though I tried my best tactics which have worked before:wall:. I have cancelled, so I will wait for the next call from them although reading here I may try the chat function or a second call just to see if they can do better on Tuesday (which is when the Virgin offer ends). I don't know what they are up to, but for the 3 previous renewals I have just mentioned the deal and they match it in one phone call.
Best offer from Virgin is 6 months 1/2 price on Kahuna & movies 12 months up front line rental 200mb BB and 2 boxes (OK one doesn't record but I don't care) with their £100 cashback it is average £56.08 per month or I can have a wireless speaker (I don't think so) and IF I get Quidco money it is a average £48.74.
I think I will now cancel and comeback to sky in 12 months when they have dropped the prices of the Q boxes. SO come on sky you have 2 days before you definitely lose me as a customer.
UPDATE
Just logged on to my computer and the %^&$*!# idiot at Sky has cancelled my McAfee Package as of today (yes I know I can get free ones, but I have used McAfee for years with Zero virus or problems so I am willing to pay). I didn't ask for this to happen, but I have got it. Well so much for fantastic customer service.0 -
Be careful with the 10 month discounts that they offered last year (and may do again this year).
I called to arrange a deal and they will only offer 35% discount and stick me in another 12 month contract.
I've ended up cancelling Movies and Sky Talk Extra just to have a reduced bill for the final 2 months of my contract as my £9.99 line rental and 50% off Family and Movies is ending this month.0 -
I had Virgin Media at my old address for 10months of an 18month contract. I moved house and they couldnt supply me but want me to pay the remains of my contract. Any help gratefully received as i only get state pension and cant afford £200+0

Every day someone posts on here moaning about an Early Termination of Contract (ETC) fee and every day the answer is the same.
It's not Virgin's fault that you signed an eighteen month contract and then 10 months later moved to a location not covered by their cable service.
If you genuinely can't afford the ETC fee, then you should arrange a payment plan with them to avoid any problems with unpaid debt.0 -
I only got offered a small discount when I tried chat a few weeks ago so I cancelled all services, TV phone and BB.
One week later, no call, no offers but I decided to try chat again as I wanted to sort the phone/BB at least and keep my phone number. I already had other options lined up so decided I'd see what they offered.
I have variety, sky talk extra and unlimited BB.
Went into chat and straight away got offered 60% off TV and £50 credit, paused to consider and then got offered the £100 credit so I accepted. Mentioned I'd like to reduce BB and they said they would put a note on my account.
Next day went to check my online account and found I have been given free BB too so very happy with that.
Today they called and asked to give me a deal to keep me so if you are in your 30 days cancellation period you will get the deal you want.0 -
Sky chatted about 2 weeks ago as wanted to reduce monthly bill which was topping £100 mark.
We had the following:
Sky Family with Sports at £61.50
Unlimited BB at £7.50
Line Rental £17.40
1571 £1.25
Sky Talk evenings/weekends £4.00
Total £91.65
With the odd weekday phone call this was often a monthly figure of £104.
During the initial chat which lasted about an hour, I was offered the same package as above but with Sky Talk Anytime Extra (£4.00) for £85.65.
After some discussion concerning ways around reducing my bill by taking minimum TV packages I decided to cancel and entered the 30 day cancellation period.
As with others, I received no calls, emails (apart from their survey) or MySky offers so decided to re-enter chat again.
On for well over an hour but in the end came away with a 50% reduction for 12 months on my TV package plus £100 credit. I asked for 60% but they told me this offer had ended. The £100 credit was increased from £50 after speaking to their manager (or so she said).
As my BB and Talk was still active she could not discuss any offers for those packages.
Totally happy with what I got so I must thank all MSE members for their input in this forum.
Cheers!0 -
I'm with BT on their Infinity 1 + Entertainment TV/Sports package. I was on a 12 month promo deal for new customers that came to around £15/mth (on top of line rental).
I rang them last week to ask them the date the contract came to an end (which is in early March) and the customer service guy ran through the figures and said he could do a discounted rate of £33/mth (again, excluding line rental).
He didn't seem very interested in making any further efforts, and I didn't want to give notice so said I'd need to have a look at my other options before deciding,
I rang back today having seen a Sky offer that works out at £10/mth (on top of line rental) for unlimited fibre with the Original Bundle TV package. The person I spoke to today at BT didn't even ask why I wanted to leave or the deal I was going to - she just went through the process of how the new provider would take over the line etc.
Has anyone had any recent offers from BT retentions on coming to the end of their 12 month offers? I saw an ad in today's Metro from BT basically giving away the same package I'm on now for around £5/mth so it really is annoying when they show absolutely no interest in retaining existing customers.0 -
anyone managed to do anything with virgin media on broadband only ? I just have fibre broadband (no phone line).0

I managed to get a deal with BT on renewal
I have the phone line with weekend calls and had the infinity 1 but was limited to 20mb a month. Was paying £17.99 line rental and £7.50 for infinity (total £25.49 per month)
I phoned up and asked if they could do a deal for unlimited infinity. I spoke about sky offering unlimited infinity for £10 a month (but would be £6.95 for router and £50 activation plus line rental at £17.40) - total for Sky for a year would have been £385.72
They offered me unlimited infinity at £13.85 a month and line rental at £17.99 a month - total for a year £382.08
I took the offer and am happy with not having to swap.If at first you don't succeed, keep on trying0 -
Just wanted to say thanks for the tips on this thread.
Sky customer for 11 years always paid full price. After calling to find out if there were any deals and was offered a measly £4 a month discount, I cancelled my TV services on Sunday evening. I have variety, sports n movies, unlimited BB and anytime extra calls totalling £101.15 (had free BB till May so would've been an extra £7.50 from then on)
Tonight through live chat I negotiated..
50% off TV package (variety, movies n sports) £32.25
50% off fibre unlimited £10.00
Line rental at £9.99
25% off anytime extra £6.00
Free hub, activation and PnP etc.
And £100 bill credit
No discount on HD pack, still £11.25 but extremely happy that I now have fibre BB and a new monthly bill of £69.49 for 12 months :j:j0
