I called Sky today as my friend gave me a friends & family code. Asked to apply it, they said "no" as I am an existing customer so I'm stuck with my £63.50 a month instead of £32 that this deal offers me. I told them to cancel my account and I'll re-register as a "new" customer. They said I can't do that either as I'd have to wait 12 months!

Best they offered me was a rubbish 20% discount for 3 months i.e. £51 instead of 63.50 for 3 whole months.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the price down a bit more, get an improved deal or, preferably, get the friends & family deal applied to my account? :(

    Thanks!

ps would cancelling and signing up as my gf / mum / dad be an option? :-0 I live in a flat... maybe that helps.

Apparently from what I've heard that works.

As for having to leave for 12 months.. I know someone who left for 6 months and got it.

But then read some of the responses to this thread.. people have told them to start the process.. and sky contacted them and gave them 50% off.
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!

I have been a sky customer on the full package for 6 years and have had hd for the past 18 months, the only deal I've ever had is 3 months half price sports & movies which is about to end.

I called them up last night (on a landline number) and asked to be put through to cancellations, after a 10 minute wait I spoke to a nice scottish lady and told her I wanted to cancel my subscription. I told her I would be happy with freeview, after asking me what I watch she offered it to me for £49 per month for the full package + hd for 12 months, I told her I would still like to cancel as I can live without sky tv, so then she offered it for £36 for 6 months which I accepted :T

I've been with Virgin since the NTL days, i just rung and asked why my bill is so high for my package (it's gone up about £15!) and the unhelpful man told me to go find the bills where it showed i was getting it cheaper than £60 - there was no discussion, just him breaking down my bill from this month! Ended the call by telling him i was going to call sky, another customer lost for Virgin!! :(

Called last night, have been a Virgin customer for many years, and am on an "unpublished" tariff due to disounts each time we decide to leave unless it gets cheaper (which we would, and live with freeview).

None of my threats to leave are idle, I would do it, and while the entertainment package in the household would not be so varied, I am not sure it would be missed as much as the £40 per month would be enjoyed doing the alternatives that could then be enjoyed.

£60 saved over the comnig year, so happy with that for now.

Anyway, I got another £5 per month discount, so will stay for another 12 months

I think that when the BT Inifinity arrives, at least you will have very realistic alternatives to Cable.

Broadband speeds is generally where Virgin can lock you in, as if the BT services in your area are poor, they sort of have you by the curlies.

There's an online checker now giving the dates for Inifity on various exchanges, so well worth checking out to decide whether you want to lock yourself in or not. I would imagine, that whent he BT service goes live, the others will need to be a little more aggressive with their customer retention, and it might be a good time to negotiate a new lock in for a good discount.

So apart from the extra Broadband Speed, what does BT Infinity offer? We always stay with Virgin on cable because we can't get Alibi with anyone else and I am addicted to detective series like NewTricks, Waking the Dead, etc., plus the old man is addicted to Last of the Summer Wine. :D You don't get them with anyone else do you? If you can I would switch tomorrow, I hate being held hostage by any company !
  • I phoned sky this afternoon. I am on their basic TV only package paying £20 a month and have been for a couple of years. Said I was thinking about leaving and was given 12 months with 25% off almost as quickly as they picked up the phone.

    Easiest £60 I ever made

Yes I know but you need a dish and we are not allowed to have one on the outside of our bungalow when we move. It is a housing association maintained one and they don't allow them. :(
