Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Phoned up 2 weeks ago and asked for discount on our £34.75 p/m subscription and mentioned cancellation - Advsior said no current offers available at minute. I told them I would think about it and call them back.
Anyway went to Sky online chat today and told them I wanted to cancel - someone is now due to ring back later.
My Question is if they do not come up with a discount and if I still say I want to cancel do they cancel me straight away or is there a cooling off period etc.
I don't really want to cancel but every man and his dog seems to be getting half price offers etc (I have been with Sky 15 years and have never asked for anything before).
Just want to be aware if this is first stage in haggling process or if I stick to my guns is it likely to backfire! - Thanks0 -
I've just phoned sky. I'm on the basic package and have been with Sky for 15 years. The girl I spoke to said there was no offers available for me to have the Sports package. I then said that I had received an offer through the post for half price 3 months, she then said oh, then that's the only offer we have for you then.
I'll phone back tomorrow see what they say.£400+ in my £2 coin tablet fund0 -
Another disappointed Sky customer. I tried last night. Phoned them, spoke to retentions dept. Was calm, polite but firm. Explained that i pay £62 per month so £747 per year and have been with them for nearly 4 years. Never missed a payment etc.
They said all the offers had expired 2 days ago. I didnt believe that for a second. The C/S person asked their supervisor. Answer, still no.
Ended up by telling me that they were very surprised there were no deals like half price, and what made me fume was they said the deals were a Postcode lottery anyway ! Nice. So i've paid nearly £2700 over 4 years but because of my Postcode I dont get "any deals", not even for 6 months whilst things are a bit tight for me right now.
When I said i'd cancel they said "ok, do what you have to do". I dont want to cancel, but seems very unfair how lots of people are getting half price TV for 6 months, yet I can't. Oh well ?!
If you live in a VM area you'd have better bargaining power which is why it can be a postcode lottery0 -

Have, at the moment:
XL TV and V+ HD box
2 additional V Boxes
M Broadband
Line Rental
Sky movies and sky sports
Paying £93.99 for that all.
Best offer I was given was £87. Absolutely shocking.
bye bye virgin.0 -

I feel quite good. I just came off the phone with Sky, regarding my package. Very helpful chap on the phone. My bill prior to my chat with Anthony was approx £70, including line rental and calls (no BB).
It is now £46, with all the same stuff I had before. I was going to drop a multi room (we have 2) and he gave me 1 for free for 12 months, and the lovely boy gave me free line rental for 6 months. I also dropped a few channels we never watch, saving another few quid. I didn't even have to say I was going to leave. All in all, a good few minutes work! It's definitely worth giving it a go, what have you got to lose?0 -
i rang sky today as my current 12 months half price package was coming to an end and i got another 6 months half price :beer:0

I actually think that it was a HUGE HUGE mistake for MSE to make it headlines on here and on the TV last week that Sky were one of the easiest to haggle with. Sky have obviously latched onto this and are now just calling customers bluff. I've never really had a problem haggling with Sky, until this week that is. Seems almost all other posters on here have been met with the same wall.
yeah me too no offers at all and called my bluff whitch i played.
i did get a questionaire asking why i was leaving and whether they could call me again.
anybody else get this or is it the norm.0 -

Ya, I cancelled and got that (I was not bluffing btw). One week before it was due to cut off, I got a call from Reinstate department who offered me 12m half price. I accepted.Mark Hughes' blue and white army0
