Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Mmm - not sure about that. My sister lives a couple of doors down from me (we both live in old 100+ year flats) with her dish in similar location. She had probs with her dish (which had originally been caused by Sky) and after threatening to cancel they had offered to fix her dish and upgrade at the same time. But when sky man arrived, he refused to touch it and said that Sky won't now do jobs like this because of Health & Safety.
Has anyone managed to get Sky to do such installations ie. on chimney/roof recently?0 -
Another disappointed Sky customer. I tried last night. Phoned them, spoke to retentions dept. Was calm, polite but firm. Explained that i pay £62 per month so £747 per year and have been with them for nearly 4 years. Never missed a payment etc.
They said all the offers had expired 2 days ago. I didnt believe that for a second. The C/S person asked their supervisor. Answer, still no.
Ended up by telling me that they were very surprised there were no deals like half price, and what made me fume was they said the deals were a Postcode lottery anyway ! Nice. So i've paid nearly £2700 over 4 years but because of my Postcode I dont get "any deals", not even for 6 months whilst things are a bit tight for me right now.
When I said i'd cancel they said "ok, do what you have to do". I dont want to cancel, but seems very unfair how lots of people are getting half price TV for 6 months, yet I can't. Oh well ?!0 -
I've had a similar experience RS.
Had a long polite discussion but the only suggestions for reducing my suscription was to cut my package.
If they call me with an offer before the notice period ends then fine, I'll be interested. If not, I'm prepared to accept no sky fo a while.
Does anyone know whether I will be allowed to start a "new member" discount package (and cashback) when my notice period is up?0 -

I've followed this thread with some interest; we've been with Sky for donkey's years and never got anything out of them. The funny thing is that I'm actually a pretty good haggler normally.
6 months ago I decided we were paying too much, and rang them up to try and sort something. They wouldn't give anything and all I did was cancel the sports package.
More recently my mum had someone knock on her door and sell her a sky package - she got an HD box, all channels bar sports and movies, broadband and calls of £32 a month. I could really do with changing my broadband package and called to try and get something better. In spite of speaking to two seperate advisors, they were only prepared to offer me broadband and calls for £24 per month, in addition to the £50 we already spend.
As an aside, we live in an area where Virgin TV is not available. To be honest, while I'm generally happy with Sky, I'm actually tempted to cancel and go over to BT vision, because I'm so unhappy at how poorly existing customers are treated.0 -
I've also followed it with interest, and now frustration at the apparant randomness of their deals. There are a lot of posts here of sucess stories, and this is just one Forum. There must be hundreds more.
To me it appears far too random whether they offer deals to you or not - and frankly that just isn't fair.
I will watch new posts on here with antipication, because if what I was told about the deals ending 2 days ago is not true (and I don't personally believe it is true), and if I see any new posts from people saying that they have been offered a half price tv deal for 6 months deal I will be back on to Sky. If no deal a 2nd time I will cancel out of principle alone.
Did haggle and get my car ins down by £110 today, so not all bad0 -
My six month half price deal ended in July so called Sky yesterday on the pretence of cancelling... was offered 12 months half price on HD and multiroom subscriptions which works out about the same as the 6 month offer in the long run.:)0

I've read so many times about how people ring up and get half price blah blah
Ive been with sky for 4 years, never had a discount. I rung up a month ago and old them I couldn't afford it anymore, not one offer. I'm now 2 days from being turned off, so rung back up and the best they'll do is £26 a month off
I currently pay £81.50 for sky world, multi room, hd and ESPN
I sense there's a lot of crap being talked!0 -
Joeedgar, you might be right, who knows. But hey, at least you were offered a discount - I wasn't.
Actually....... they've offered you a 32% discount there, thats not too bad is it ? I'd have been happy with the 25% that so many people claim to have gotten from Sky lately.....0 -
My guess is that it comes down to where you live. If you're in an area where there is competition, they'll do you a deal, if you're not, then they won't bother.
As I said, I live in an area without cable, so can't get Vigin Media. The truth is there's no real competition to Sky - BT vision is ok, but it's really just freeview+. My Mrs wouldn't be happy if we didn't have all the channels showing at home with Jordan, or some thing about weddings!
As an aside, Sky have been offering free broadband for years, but whenever I've rang up, they always says it's not available in my area. I can see a campaign coming on!0
