Has anyone done the recommend a friend offer and then used the pre-paid mastercard to pay their Sky bill? The only downside I've found is the 50p surcharge for using this type of card.

    Thanks

Not sure if this is the right thread, but can anyone give me some Virgin Media advice? We've had a package for tv, landline and broadband for many years (since it was ntl!), currently paying around £35 for their XL 'phone, up to 20mb broadband and M tv package. We've just bought a new tv, and the elderly Virgin digital box doesn't work too well. A call to Virgin said they'd replace the box free, for a delivery charge of £20. We can't compare our old package with their current offerings, not like for like. Is it worth trying to argue them out of the charge? Very loathe to move - it would an monstrous task to notify everyone of change of email and 'phone number!

    Thanks in advance. :)

Was haggling this week on Live Chat, was offered and accepted 25% off for 12 months (no contract). Pushed for more (50% etc) and thought this was quite interesting: -

"Ah, there is department in here that sometimes (and I needto stress the word sometimes), call customers who are cancelling, or in theprocess of cancelling their accounts, and offer higher rate discounts. I'd belying to you to deny this. However, they work on postcode regions and don'tjust call every customer, it's not as simple as that I'm afraid. Also, if theydo call, and you are not at home, they do not call back.
Honestly, David, if I could offer you more I would."
    Any thoughts?

the day you are cancelled, ring sky up and tell them you have had a call or a flyer to come back. the guys on the front end cant help you as your account is cancelled, ask them to put you through and they will :)
  • I have just come to the end of a 75% off for the year deal, mind you I was switched off for three months last time to be offered that deal. Prior to that had two consecutive years of 50% off for the year.

It does appear sky have changed there tactics a little this year.

When you cancel they will always ask you a series of questions, my advice is to answer them go along with it but whatever they offer just cancel, obviously unless your happy with the deal they offer. Usually offer 10% to 20% ish to me.

As soon as I cancelled this time they offered 33% off for the year on mysky but i held out. Within my cancellation period they called me and offered me the same 33% which I declined and then was offered 50% for 10 months, last 2 months on full price. I rejected this and said I had been on 75% off, they said this deal was no longer available and thanked me for my time and ended the call. I was also offered 33% off for five years but only on a 12 month contract so could cancel after the 12 months at anytime which is the 1st time i had ever been offered anything like this.

My service was switched off and I once again got a flyer offering 50% off for a year within a week or two so i contacted live chat. After abit of conversation back and forth they I eventually got 12 months half price and credit to my account which means first month was free.

Im always friendly and polite with the sky advisors, I think this has paid off. im also prepared to be cut off for a while to get a better deal which may not suit some.

It does appear the days of 75% off are gone for the time being and 50 - 60% possibly with credit etc is the best that can be offered at the moment.

I was called yesterday and offered:

    * 50% off Variety package for 10 months.
    * £100 credit to account
    * 31 day rolling contract.

We haven't missed it for the past 9 months when its been switched off but as its 'free' then why not.

Once the credit is used up (approx 3 months as it comes off the total bill so the phone and BB are soaking it up as well) I will call up and give my 31 days notice and go round the loop again.

Just renewed my 50% off deal for Sky Sports and my Sky TV package. I am not on a 12-month contract and so I can cancel anytime.

Had an online chat with a very helpful person from India who gave me the package and deal.

Be careful though. When I cancelled my deal yesterday, I was told that I wouldn't be offered another 50% off deal so take everything with a pinch of salt.

Don't believe anything that Sky tell you. Really impressed with their off-shore team.
  • OK so i have just cancelled my TV package.
I'm on the original package at £21.50 a month. Said i was interested in the family package but the £33 is to expensive. They came back with what they called a fabulous off of 10% off for 10 months, which i of course declined. She had a chat with her manager and offered me 40% off for 6 months.
Both these offers where on 12 month contracts. I explained i do not want to enter into a 12 month contract but they would not budge on this. I have now cancelled my TV and waiting to see what they come back with. Can't see any offers in MySky yet, but not sure i'm looking on the eight place.

Log in and click the mysky tab nothing else, the screen will load and gave Hi and the offer in the middle of the page. Just below it is a like chat button and a call number, click on the live chat and they will give you probably 50% off

Hi - I've learned the hard way what happens when you go over your BT broadband allowance....but on the plus side it has prompted me to look at my existing costs - every cloud and all that....
ok, so my current costs with BT are this:
    Line Rental - £16.99
Broadband (infinity) plus calls - £22.66
    Evening/weekend calls package - £3.72
In total my DD is £53pm
In addition to this, we have Virgin Media for our TV - this runs at about £53 per month and includes:
TV XL (no Sky Sports or Movies)
2 Set top boxes - one V+ recordable and one non recordable
Phone line - which is their bog standard one - only use it to call VM on the free number.

So I rang VM today to see what 'deals' they have - bearing in mind that I've been with them since 1996 (in their various guises) and have only had 1/2 deals with them over that period. This was their offering for TV, Broadband and phone services...
    Evening and weekend calls
    TV XL
3 Set Top boxes (I wanted a third one) inc 1 Tivo, 2 standard (although I might see if the engineer would let us keep the recordable one we already have and put that upstairs)
The cost for this was £86.99 plus a one off charge of £49.99 for the installation of the Tivo box.

The downside of moving from BT is that I will lose my btinternet address which we have had forever and which everyone has. It's linked to our banking accounts, Norton and Tom Tom account etc. I don't mind losing the spam though....
I'm not convinced that there's not a better deal to be had from VM but I don't know for sure. Anyone got any thoughts on it? Am I asking too much for a discount for being 'loyal' or is this a really good price and I'm being greedy?
