Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

I was told the discount rolls over after the minimum term, so even if you don't renew you will stil get the 33% discount.
When I was offered this a few months back it was only a 12 month contract, then a rolling 30 day one. So able to cancel after the 12 months as usual. I imagine it's still the same now.
Yep, I agree. It's the reason I declined
I actually think this would be a good deal for people who are hopeless at remembering when their minimum term is up, or just never get round to phoning up for a discount year after year. 33% off is better than reverting to full price! How often on here do you see people write 'My discount finished x months ago and I never realised! I've been paying full price'.
So how does the above boldened text make it a 5 yr contract? Are Sky guaranteeing to offer a 33% discount every year but the subscriber doesn't have to take it up? That sounds like desperation measures to me. Whatever, still wouldn't be interested.0 -
I was told you get the 33% off five years, and its off the price at the time so if the price rises so does your price, I was also told I would be signing up for another 12 months not 5 year and it was just to save me calling up every year to get an offer. But like I said I gave it a miss doesnt bother me having to call every year, the other half on the other had hates it when this time comes round haha.
My TV went off last night and so far I have had no offers under mysky and today its just telling me to call a number which every time I try is too busy0 -
just had a very frustrating online chat! received the 35% off letter today so logged on to the webpage quoted (sky.com/comebacktosky) for info & live chat available straight away (surprise, surprise!), so thought i'd try my luck.
asked if 35% off TV was best available &, after checking with a manager, upped it to 50% for 10 months, no contract tie in. great, i thought, but then the quoted figures didn't tally to 50% off my current tv pack price, it was only 35% off.
advisor just refused to listen to me, kept waffling on about rubbish & just wouldn't answer my queries. in the end, after a fair bit of prodding, the 50% was only off the variety/sports & movies element, multiscreen & HD would remain at full cost.
very misleading as was he was initially just quoting 50% off current tv pack, but it isn't. HD isn't even listed as a separate charge on my bill, so how am i supposed to know how much it is per month? i know multiscreen is separate & i did think that it might be pushing it for a 50% discount to include it, but others have got this (i think?).0 -

I have not managed to get through on chat or on the phone but I have heard that when they do 50% off it doesnt include the hd Pack, still dont know why they charge extra as no other comany does, I worked on that If i get what i had before family pack, sprots, movies and hd with 50% off but not the HD it works out at 47% discount so if they offer that might try and push for a bill credit of some sort.0 -
Is the excluded HD not the extra one for movies and sport, rather than the one inclusive in the Family package ?0

It's not a 5 year contract as I said in the post you quoted, not sure where you saw it was?
I've just dug out the flyer I had from them and, unusually for Sky, it's in clear and big writing on the front. They seem to have made a big deal of the very fact it's only a 12 month contract but the 33% off is for 5 years.Come back on a 12 month contract and save 33% year after year until 2019 on any Sky TV Bundle
If you think about it, it's not desperation at all, rather very clever. If people think they are getting a discount already, they are less likely to cancel completely or try and negotiate a 50%+ discount. Either way Sky get more money. Obviously this doesn't apply to money savers though!
As I said in my earlier post though, this is from a few months back, but I don't imagine it would have changed.0 -

Just had a very similar experience on the phone. We called to cancel a couple of weeks ago (TV only) and they started the "win back" calls a few days ago (and a letter today), with an offer of 35% off TV (not including multiroom or HD!), which saves us a grand total of £2/month off our current bill! (£74/mth)
The woman I spoke to today started off by saying thankyou for being a loyal customer for 11 years, we appreciate it.. then offered my the exact same discount as above and say she couldnt offer any more. I explained that I had on the screen in front of me the exact same packages from Virgin and BT (save for Sky Atlantic I guess) for £45.50 and £57 per month respectively and thats our bottom line - could Sky get near to those? She just said sorry no we can't and that was it.
We have a couple more weeks til the TV's cut off so will see what else they say if anything - but the figures above are a bit of a no-brainer really, especially with £120 Quidco thrown in!
First time in years that the competition looks viable, Sky have always pulled something out the bag for us before, wonder what's happened?0 -
My 4th year of playing the game with Sky.
12 months of 50% discount on TV coming to an end, along with my 12 months free broadband.
Handing my notice in for the TV only and explained that i was unwilling to pay anymore than i already do. The agent went for a word with her manager and I was offered 50% discount for 10 months on a 12 month tie-in. I declined explaining that i would only be interested in 12 months discount on a 12 month tie in. I was told this was the best offer available.
Two days later, Thanks to Sky advertising free broadband everywhere i look, I call enquiring on how i get a MAC code as i'm not willing to pay when new customers get it for free, i'm immediately offered 12 months free broadband again, subject to a 12 month minimum term.
6 days later Sky call me and we go through the "why do you want to leave" chat, again i'm offered the same deal as above, I again decline for the same reason and tell them i'd only agree to that offer if there wasn't a 12 month tie-in. The agent agrees....cheekily i ask if i can have a discount on my Sky Go extra, she checks and says there are no offers but she can give me a £50 credit to cover the next 10 months cost.
Calendar marked to start again in 9 months time0 -
It's going to get proper interesting come the football negotiations time. I personally think BT will simply blow them out the water and then it will be Sky who are left with 26 games in total. It will end up being the Sky & BSB all over again. Wonder what happens to their user base then.
Will post any more offers I get though, in my current "I'm out" period. But not had anything enough to drag me back in yet, even with the latest 33% off for 5 years.0 -
Anybody had any luck with getting a discount on Sky Fibre ?0
