Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

I cancelled my TV package just over a week ago, variety with sports and movies but have kept broadband for now. My box was an old SD one and having bought a new TV I just wasn't getting the benefit without upgrading to HD. So, I was wondering, have people received good discounts as well as a new HD box after they've cancelled. I've received no offers, not even 30% off through my sky and no calls either. Am I hoping for too much?0

ooh, ooh, i've had a missed call earlier from an 0800 no. that appears to be sky. at least it's contact so i'm hopeful of being able to do a 'deal'...
i probably won't get chance to phone them until tomorrow now though.
hillwalker - have a read read through a couple of pages of last posts, i think a new free HD box might be pushing it, not sure about a discounted one and a discounted pack though. would you buy a nearly new one from perhaps ebay ?0 -
I thought I might be asking for too much. They were willing to offer me a free HD box upgrade before I cancelled so I thought if they were willing to do that then there must be room for an additional discount. I've not really had a look at second hand HD boxes but I would be prepared if there was a good deal on the subscription.0

Great thread, been watching with interest. Been with SKY since the squarial days, decided to try the cancellation route to save a bit of money.
Currently paying £62.75/month for variety and sports in HD.
Called the cancellation line and was offered £10 off or just variety for £28. Told them not enough and started cancellation process about an hour ago.
Just logged into My Sky and instantly being offered 35% off to stay for another 12 months. So that would be £40.78, which i'd be happier with, but gonna hold longer for 50%.
Quick question though, during negotiations at this stage, can you get them to add on Movies at a cheap price as well as discount the original package? Just want to see what I can get out of them.
Would love to get movies added and still be paying less than £40/month. Possible?17 x 300W panels (5.1kW) on a 3.68kW SolarEdge system in Sunny Sheffield.

Not necessarily. I was in the same situation as you. Ended up with a free HD box and 30% off the TV package. I had been switched off for a while though, so that may have had a bearing. I wasn't in a great rush to get it switched back on, so whenever they called with an offer, if it didn't include a new box I politely declined and hung up. They must have got the message in the end!0 -
I tried for a box but they still said no I could not even buy one for £49 the offer I had on my account. I told them I didn't wont the box for free just the offer on my account for the sky 2tb. Our box has a sound fault on it and is crashing a lot. The only offer was £69 for someone to come to look at the box. We have already payed out for a new dish a few years ago due to them leaving a very old dish up when they fitted sky for us. So at the moment have turned down the 50% off they have not called since.I would like to be a glow-worm.

Just put in notice to cancel on Saturday, best they could offer that day was 10% off. So went ahead and cancelled.
Few mins into cancellation MySky shows 35% off, was going to accept but thought I'll wait till the end of notice period if I get better offer.
Today (3 days into notice period) get a call from Sky offering 50% off 12 months no contract! I accepted.
So from paying £33 now to £16.50.0 -
Hoping someone can quickly help....I've just spoken to Sky about reinstating my broadband/phone and they have offered me the same price as I'm currently paying, however, have told me if I take that offer they will have to restart my TV cancellation from today rather than 2 weeks ago when I cancelled everything....is that right???
Update: Well that's what I had to do to keep the broadband and phone but to be honest, the broadband/phone is cheaper than it was going to cost me moving to TalkTalk. Will hold out on the TV cancellation now as can live without that....0 -
Just did my yearly phone call to sky. Told them that the full package price was just too much. And it was affordable when I was getting it for half price but its just expired and not realistic. Said that due to the 'stature' of my account (he clearly realised that Im really really important) he was able to offer me 50% off for the next 10 months. Maybe I could have played the game a little more. It took me much more effort to get the same offer 2 years ago. I just couldn't be bothered. He did say its for 10 months but to call back when the 10 months expire and they will see what they can do.. Some get more some get less..Im happy with mine.Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk

I am not as good at negotiating it would appear. All I got was 10% off plus Free BB for 1 yr. Next time I will definitely go to the
cancellation process."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0
