Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

You haven't just cancelled your broadband without asking someone else to take over have you or you will probably get a cease charge ?
I didn't get any offers online; just a message saying they couldn't offer any, so call them.
No, I have to wait until Jan 14th for my years broadband contract to expire, so I'm still with them for that until then.
Plan to ring them on the last day of the TV deal (also 14th by coincidence) and ask outright.
I'll get BT to kick off migration of broadband at that date if the discount isn't forthcoming - assuming the same deal is on offer then..
Any idea how long after leaving Sky you qualify as a "new customer" again. Presumably 12 months?0 -

The offer appeared (for me anyway) on the "home" page of MySky,my account - sort of italic writing!! Initially whilst in the notice period 35% off for 12 months, then "leapt" to 50% as soon as the service actually ended. I negotiated about a day after switch off, using on line chat as I haven't got the patience for the phone conversation!!0

Thanks, useful to know where to look.
I can't see anything so I guess I'll keep checking back just in case.0 -
Has anyone got any excperience of leaving virgin after their recent price hike?
I am going to call them today to try and haggle and would love an idea of what I should be aiming to get from them...?0 -
I phoned up to cancel Virign today, was on XL TV and L BB and MPhone, 2nd box going up to £71 a month, spoke to someone in England on the thinking of leaving option (not easy to find), she was prepared to cancel the increase as soon as I mentioned it.
To be honest I always had my eye on Sky Atlantic, however I am perfectly happy with the broadband and do need a phone, so agreed to
L BB
M Phone
M TV
I thought it was going to be about £35, but I just got an e-mail through and its £30.99 as they've kindly given me a £5 loyalty bonus. I get to keep my TIVO and will be moving it to the bedroom, we might watch the odd thing.
I then signed up to SKY Variety Package that seems to be the same TV channels (less BT Sport which I never watch).
£21 a month
£75 credit
£120 topcashback (already tracked)
So I now pay £52 a month and have a TIVO and a SKY+box and have £195 coming in credit and cashback. So for the next 12months I pay £35.75 effectively.
I know I might have been able to save a little with SKY BB, but it isn't that fast in my area and I don't like not having the company responsible for the whole network, my experience is if there was issues they'd blame BT, who would blame SKY.0 -

Just a quick one about marketing preferences.
Made the call to Sky to cancel today and made sure all boxes were ticked online beforehand.
Following the call and email confirmation of the cancellation, went back into MySky and the marketing preference boxes were automatically unticked. I've reticked them, but its a word of caution to ensure they are ticked yourself, never assume. Especially if you are waiting for some kind of offer.Mortgage free I: 8th December 2009!
Mortgage free II: New Year's Eve 2013!
Mortgage free III: Est. Dec 2021...0 -
Thanks,
The only one that now isn't ticked is for the smart ad stuff. Before that I didn't have the "personalise" box ticked.
We will wait and see..0
