They spend twenty minutes asking you about your viewing habits to gauge how likely you are to quit and the possibility you're just angling for a deal. That's why a lot of the "deals" offered when people phone to cancel aren't particularly brilliant because some people will just take the first thing offered to them.

Like the phone call just made: 35% off TV for 8 months and nothing on the Phone/BB side which took 5 minutes "on hold" to get* and then being told "If you hang up this deal will no longer be available"**.

    Cancellation put in.
  • I have cancelled Sky and we've been switched off for 3 weeks now. The latest deal I have been offered is 60% off family bundle and skysports, £50 credit and £10 for line rental with broadband unlimited for free.

We've not missed Sky tv at all so I have declined the offer and am in the process of switching broadband to EE.

Ditto - I left Sky in May and have been offered a very similar deal - with the exception of a £100 credit instead.

Like you, I switched to EE for unlimited broadband. Luckily, I don't use the 'Net for online gaming. My download/upload speeds are never more than 2Mbps. So, watching catch-up can be a bit jerky. If you want to use the 'Net for more than that, beware of EE's speeds.

When my EE contract runs out in May, I'll be moving elsewhere, perhaps back to Sky if they offer me 75%.
  • was horrified to realise after a conversation with the wife tonight to realise how much we pay for our tv / phone.
bt is approx £60 per month, this gives us, unlimited calls (we probably make 2 x20 minutes calls per week),and bt internet.
sky is also approx £60 per month. this is everything bar the movies.
both contracts are at least 18 months old.
what can i do to reduce my monthly bill off £120?
i want 1 supplier but would love to keep sky sports.
    any help much appreciated.

You should be able to halve that if you haggle with Sky ie discount off the TV ,reduced price line rental, and (possibly)free b/band for 12 months -try online chat early in the morning - it takes longer than the phone BUT you can get other things done whilst they are going thru the usual rigmarole about your viewing habits etc etc

    1. cancel sky. Dont call and say you might cancel, dont accept the first thing they offer, just put in your 30 days notice to cancel.

    2. If you want BT sport then call BT and tell them Sky have offred you a deal for Broadband adn line rental at £10 a month. This is not true but is what people genarly pay if they get an offer from Sky if they have sky sports. £15 if you have fibre. They may offer you something, if you can get it for £20 including line rental or £25 including line rental on fibre then this is probably as good as any offer you will get from Sky.

    3. wait for sky to call you or be prepaired to actually let sky cancel for a while .... I did and got 75% off and would not settle for anything less than 50% off. If you desperatly want to keep sky then call them towards the end of the 30 day period and say you had a call offering 50% off to stay and wanted to ake it, again not true but this is a standard offer from sky. You could the also ask if they could do you a deal for Broadband if you had no joy with BT!

For comparison, I pay less than £20 a month for full sky TV package and around £20 a month for BT broadband so that I can get BT sport.... although I got £150 cashback via topcashback for & a £50 sainsburys voucher for signing up for BT so am really only paying about £2 a month for BT.
These are the best deals I have ever had but like I said, never accept anything less than 50% off and be prepaired to cancel for a while.
  • I rang and cancelled my sky TV last month
TV went off this morning, no call from sky to stay! :(

I did ring but most could offer me was £36.25 for just 6 months (apparently i was paying around £33.37 with the 25% off from last year)

Already have free broadband deal just offered when I cancelled (Still paying the £17pm line rental) so really wanted 50% off TV to beat last years offer!

Is it still worth asking Live Chat? as they had no offers when I just rang up or would it just be that there are really nothing on my account as an offer?

I'd recommend waiting for a while.

If you contact them then they will know you're angling for an offer and it may not convince them to roll out the bigger offers as they may see it that you're desperate for the service and will take less off. They record how many times you have contacted them and the reason for doing so. The last time I spoke to Sky, they could reference something I said in a call more than a year ago.

If you want to check, login to the website with your Sky ID and see if anything is showing up in Offers (Go to My Sky and 'Offers' under 'Upgrades).

If nothing is showing up there, wait a while for the retention call or the flyer in the mail.
  • Thank you, will just wait, I just picked a wrong time to cancel with christmas really :rotfl:

I looked online but all it says under offers and upgrades is Unfortunately we are unable to show your exclusive offers available online. To continue or for more information, please call 03442 411 818.

Maybe its too soon as was only the last day it went off :rotfl:
