Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Has anybody had any luck ringing up on cut off day and asking for the discount they are looking for?
Though it seems rude to do so, the reason for me asking then would be
1. I'm on a legacy HD pack that includes the F1 channel, which when gone I can't get back.
2. I'd buy a freesat box the next day, so would keep that for at least 4 months before considering rejoining Sky so it paid for itself.
I guess no harm in asking them. It would be typical to get the 50% offer 2 days after cancel though!0 -
Gutted I never got any calls after giving my notice in, ringing up soon after it went off and still no decent offer (only a small saving for 6 months)
Still cant get into my account online too when I go to offers, or sky 'shop' to add TV it says unavailable hmmmMake £10 a day Challenge June - £1700 -

As phone/bb needs less notice, call at that time. I did with success, having had only a poor offer when cancelling tv. The most you risk is a couple of weeks at full price before someone else takes over and that will probably have gone on your last bill anyway as you pay in advance and not on the same date as your renewal date. (My bill included two weeks at full price, which would have been refunded , had I left before using it and in my case was offset against the next bill, after my free landline offer).35% off TV, rolling 31 days notice (no extra contract) offered on phone call today. Nothing on Phone/BB front.0 -
That's the point I'm making. If there are other services still connected to the account, the best offers may not be forthcoming because the customer hasn't actually left Sky. As posted several times in this thread, the best deals are only offered to those who cancel everything and mean it. Hence your 50% and (possibly) KrazyKel's miserly offers. That shouldn't be the reason, I only have Sky TV, (broadband and phone are Virgin) and I was given the 50% discount offer within a week of giving my notice to cancel.
Alternatively, the marketing preferences may have been sneakily unticked when cancelling Sky TV, which seems to be a new trick under Sky's sleeve.Mortgage free I: 8th December 2009!

I cancelled only the TV last July and am now on a 50% offer. Still had Line Rental and BB at the time.0 -
3 weeks in from cancellation and getting daily calls from the 01332 Sky Retentions number. Not even bothering to answer them. Can't say have missed it at all, even the kids aren't bothered this time, so I think it's finally time to say goodbye. The Sky Cancel Game is done.

Perhaps if you didn't have line rental and broadband you may have got a 75% off offer plus a credit amount.I cancelled only the TV last July and am now on a 50% offer. Still had Line Rental and BB at the time.Mortgage free I: 8th December 2009!

Extremely unlikely as no-one on here was reporting 75% offers at the time. Most were saying that 75% had been pulled.
I may have got a £50 credit if I had pushed it further.0
