Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Just phoned to cancel my Sky Variety bundle (full price £28 p.m although I've been paying £18.20 for the last 12 months due to a haggle this time last year, aka £218.40 p.a.) and go down to record-only (£10 p.m.). We haven't watched anything except terrestrial channels in the last twelve months, but prefer the Sky+ recording experience to the Freesat equivalent. (Plus it will take me 12 months to save up for a Freesat HD box anyway).
Was offered the Variety bundle for 10 months at £10 and 2 months at full price (aka £156 p.a.). Explained that that would leave me paying an addition £36 p.a. for something I didn't use and stuck with my cancellation request.
Will be interesting to see what offer they come up with in a couple of weeks time... and then in mid-January when the cancellation has taken effect.0 -

Not worth it in my book? Get a Freesat Freetime or a Freeview Youview for around the same price you would pay for a year of sky+, then it's yours forever with no more fees and you get the bonus of the On Demand stuff too.

I currently pay £40.40 for Sky TV with families.
Sky Family package - £16 (discounted)
Sky Talk - £16
Broadband £8

I am on “Family with Movies” and SKY HD+ for £52.75 per month.
Thought I would cancel today (so would still have Sky for Xmas), but was only offered a £6.60 monthly discount over the phone to stay, so cancelled. Within minutes got an email from them as “didn’t want me to go”, and I should contact them so that they can “change my mind”. Then within a couple of hours the 35% of SKY TV deal appeared in “My Sky”. So I am guessing it is worth holding out for a better (50%) deal.
Will a 50% offer follow before the 31 day cancellation period? Also can I ask whether this deal will include the HD upgrade or do I have to pay full price for HD?
Many thanks.0 -

Definitely go through the full cancellation process. You should be able to get your package for about £30 - £36 per month.
I was on non-hd single box with variety and movies (no sport).
I hung on to the actual cut off day, called them and got the following:- £32.62 per month for HD Service, Movies, Family, MultiScreen (two rooms), a Standard SkyPlus HD box free and a second 2TB box for a one off payment of £49.
Good luck!0 -
Just accepted this offer after my sky sub was switched off 9 months ago...
60% off the Original bundle.
£100 credit on bill.
Meaning I pay £8.60 per month, but with the £100 credit I pay £3.20 for a years Sky TV.0 -
Anyone managed to get the box sets deal thrown in for free at all?0

I am considering joining Sky going through the refer a friend deal on top of the discount on the Variety package. I was told by a Sky representative that i can't have both. Either i claim the vouchers or 25% off for 6 months. Is that right? I can't even go through a cashback site either on other deals0

Sky are advertising the current 1/2 price movies for six months as not being available if you already have a discount. If you try to upgrade online, it will show as the full price, would have cost me £19 extra per month.
However if you phone up, they wont give it to you there and then but will phone you back immediately giving you the discount on top of what you already have. For me that is Movies and Entertainment for £22 p/m.0 -
Just had a quick look at Topcashback feedback and it seems people are getting cashback and vouchers. How is this possible?0
