Entertainment pack, movies and multi room. 12 months of 50% off about to end, and best I could get to was some new offer they are running which is 33% off for 5 years, but need to sign up for a 12 month contract, so far worse than my current non contracted offer. After a bit more discussion he offered a reduction to 9.99 for 10 months for my line rental if I took the 5 year offer.

...5 year deals?? They really are getting desperate!

I was offered the 5 year deal and declined it in favour of a much deeper 1 year discount.

It's hard to value a 33% discount against unknown annual price increases, in my view. Furthermore, over a 5 year period, loss of specific sports rights (e.g Champions League from next season) could devalue Sky Sports in the eyes of some subscribers, without this being reciprocated in the price Sky continue to charge.

My view was that competition is sufficiently strong in my area, to take a larger discount from Sky over 1 year, and reconsider my options at the end of that year.

I cancelled Sky mid September and was switched off on 16th October. Was on the full Sky+ HD package incl Movies and Sports plus multiroom x 2. Monthly cost was just shy of £94.

Haven't missed Sky at all as my broadband is with BT so I've still got BT Sports. I also subscribe to Netflix and Amazon Prime armed with a smart TV in one room and a not-so-smart TV in another room which has a Google Chromecast plugged into it for viewing purposes.

My original intention was to cancel and then wait for a discounted offer from Sky to return. I've just logged into Sky and clicked on MySky and a discounted offer is already there - 50% off any package for 12 months or a free Samsung Tab.

    No thanks.

As I said earlier, I haven't missed Sky at all. I'm £94 better off each month.

Thanks for posting this- good to hear from someone who ditched Sky without regrets. I have to say, I am a bit worried abt changing after all this time but I prefer to save the money!

jintyb, I'm absolutely amazed that you have paid full price to Sky for so long, without haggling.

As you can see on here, for many the annual haggle is expected and quite fruitful.

My first year with them, after O2 ceased provision, was line rental in advance, free broadband and Family tv package, with anytime calls at £5; the latter being almost covered by a £50 credit.

When this came to an end, I cancelled tv, then negotiated free line rental ,making broadband, anytime calls and line £15. I then chose to add half price variety package at half price, making my monthly bill £26.50 and was offered a further £10 credit, without asking.

Currently in Sky Chicken mode here too. Gave notice on 3rd Nov.

I've already told the (adult) kids that if there is an offer to be had this time its up to them to pay as I'm probably going to also move to BT TV when my annual line saver is up from Plusnet. I've a freesat freetime that comes out everytime the Sky goes off, so that will do for now.

When I gave notice the stroppy lady told me that I shouldn't expect this level of discount every year (current 75% off) and she has made notes on my account that £20 is max retentions can offer. Well she has shot herself in the foot already, logged into MySky and I've already got come back to sky 35% off. So odds on it will be the 50/60% off when it actually cancels.

I do love this game, but I think its finally time to stop paying them any money at all ;)

My current sky TV/Phone/BB deal is up on 27th November
Just called and theres no decent offers for me, Said I could dowgrade and remove Movies and could knock off another £5 too which i declined
plus other offer of around £5-10 a month off current package which would still be around £65

Current deal is Sky Variety with Movies 25% off ish
Plus Half Price Sky Line rental
plus had broadband too normal price of £7.50....
    total was around £48

Went ahead and put in my notice to cancel
Did offer me free broadband for 12 months tho - so just have to pay £17.40 line rental, which is about £2 more than the Broadband/Phone deal was on before...

Just need an offer more than 25% off tv to beat my old price now!!
    Make £10 a day Challenge June - £170
  • I am in the last few days (minus 1 month for notice) of 75% discount no contract on full package (Sports/Movies) and £100 credit.
I paid about £7 a month on average this year.
Am aiming to cancel within 5 minutes of the call so should be fun.
All I intend to say is I want at least the same package with at least 60% discount and £100 credit. Willing to actually contract again as would like to ensure everything full HD which is always available to the same discount.
Am willing to bet I can be such a pain as to get the cancelation done in 5 minutes.
Absolutely 100% don't expect to get what I want till the lights go out so the short phonecall is my only aim.
  • Will be phoning Sky shortly as my current 30% off TV deal is coming to an end.

Do they do discounts on the whole package? Broadband and TV, or is it just TV normally?

Also hoping for one of those dodgy PMs with a discount code :T

I cancelled tv, then did a deal on bb/phone. Being satisfied I asked about tv too, and was offered 50% off plus £10 credit.
