Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

No luck for me in fact a near disaster as I rang up yesterday to reinstate the phone line and broadband having been told I could do this right up to the last day only to be told it's too late. I was advised the phone / broadband cancellation had been submitted and at best I would net get my old number back and it was quite likely I would be cut off. My cease date was the 15th Nov. After spending nearly an hour and after much arguing and pressuring I got put through to the engineering dept who are going to try to recover my line / number and let me know today if they can.
I've been a customer for 15 years and not had a call with any offers and I have nearly ended up losing my phone line / number I've had for 17 years.
If it's reinstated I'll have a go but only with the TV, playing hard ball did not work for me.0 -
So on the time line I gave notice the TV service on the 18th October, where upon I got a smallish discount and a charge for the box plus a credit.
Then, on the 20th October got the 25% off through MySky which is still there.
Then, on the 7th got a limited time offer of 35% off TV.
Due for the chop on the 17th Nov...0 -
I cancelled tv and at the same time asked about deals on bb/phone, knowing that these needed two weeks' less notice. They were happy to let me cancel, the former and gave a poor offer on the latter.
I received no tv offers at all.
I,then, called when phone had just under two weeks to go. This would mean paying a few days at full price, should I leave, but I was willing to risk this.
The offer was free broadband and half price tv , if I was interested. The person didn't call me back, as promised..
So next day I called again and was asked what offer I'd been given, as there was no record. I told them, saying elsewhere was cheaper and that I had wanted free line rental to make staying worthwhile....and got it.
As this was a good deal, I decided to take the half price tv offer, too.
Reinstating tv is easy, but I wouldn't risk cancelling the phone/internet, unless I had a takeover sorted and, even then, I would leave this to the new provider.0 -

It will work but you can't do it half hearted, you must let it go off.
Just because sky have your number doesn't mean you can't get it back. We were also with sky for phone and broadband when we cancelled for the first time.
As long as you go back to the previous line provider you will not lose the number. In our case we went to Plusnet because they are part of BT and the number was released back to them from sky.
Sky will give you all sorts of horror stories about it could take up to 2 weeks to release but this is just blardy blardy blah to try and keep you.
Ours was off for around 6 hours, came back as plusnet and we retained our number.
Once your phone line is away from them you can play proper hardball with the TV. But cancel and mean it, let it go off and you will get the 60% deal, but you have to go without for a while. Anyway it's then you realise you can live without pay TV.0 -
Phoned to cancel the 10th, phone call today 50% of for 12 months and free HD, well worth the phone call0

£22 and some pennies, i'm under the old HD where it was £10 per month and no need for sports channnels0

My 50% off deal is about to end so its time for the annual call and haggle.
Is anyone getting the 75% off? I managed it 2 years ago, but not sure if they ever go that low anymore.
I've got family pack, movies, multi room, line and broadband so are there any specific deals on any of these?0 -
