Just got a come back to Sky before 25/09/14 and get 50% off Sky TV and Broadband offer through the letterbox.

Only a month after by cancelling the full package and moving to Virgin. Too late Sky, you had your chance.
How are you finding Virgin by comparison to Sky?
    Nice to save.
  • Just dipped a first tentative toe in the cancelling waters via their online chat, currently out of contract and paying £65 for the "Fantastic variety bundle" as well as broadband and talk talk (don't have a landline phone as always use mobile)...after an exhaustive conversation and me sticking to my guns on cancelling I was told the best option he could give would be removing the movies and reducing the line rental for 12 months by 50%. I told him I wasn't accepting that and wished to proceed to cancel, he said if I wanted to retain my number they do not cancel the phone and broadband as that makes it easy for the new provider to take over the number and once their service is active it will cancel theirs and then asked the subsequent question "so would you just want me to cancel the TV then?"

I've read about 10 pages back on this thread and from what I can infer is he gilding the lily a bit or is that info accurate? Secondly, and this is probably a daft question, but when you give your 30 days cancellation notice I'm assuming there is no actual impact on all the services within the package until that notice is over?

When I cancelled my entire package - I was not told anything like that about phone and was able to cancel it all. Although I did not have my cancellation on account for more than a week, it should not affect anything in that period for you.
  • Why not just move the phone and internet to another provider.... its much better to have them separate from your TV IMHO..... there are some great offers for phone and BB away from Sky at the moment and that will then allow you to cancel the TV and await better offers on that.

I got told the same - that if I was moving provider then just apply to the new provider and they will cancel with Sky. I suppose the only other way is saying you just want to cancel and not have a phone and internet, that way Sky would have to cancel it for you.
A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.

I hear what you're saying and in essence you are right, I'm sure there are better overall deals if you mix n match, just from personal experience though the Sky BB has been faultless and the better the devil you know instinct has kicked in on this one, having been with previous BB providers and experienced horrendous technical and customer service issues there's a peace of mind element here that is worth an extra few quid.

thanks for your reply though and to dipashah
  • Sent an email last week saying I wished to cancel entire package. Got a call next day asking why. I said it was too expensive. Offered me 25% off tv. I said no and gave 30 days notice to cancel tv and requested and received a mac code for my broadband.
I was paying £29.56 for tv, £20 for fibre optic £5 for talk anytime and £15.40 for line rental. Total £69.96.
Received a call today from sky tv department, offered first 30% off tv which I refused then offered 50% off. I again refused. Then offered 50% off and £100 credit, and no tie in so able to recancel after 2 months if I wished. I thought this was a good offer so accepted.
Twenty mins later received a call from Sky broadband, asking if I would be willing to stay if they were to offer a price cut. I said yes but said I had seen a really good deal with talktalk but couldn't remember the exact amount. Offered me half price fibre(-£10) and free line rental (-£15.40) for 12 months. This is also on a 12 month contract so no tie in when offer ends.
I accepted this, thought he might quibble when he saw I had been given £100 credit but just mentioned when he looked at my account and carried on.
So my monthly bill has been reduced from £69.96 down to £29.78 plus £100 credit. And the chance to cancel tv to get a better deal in two months when they put the prices up.
Not seen anyone get a deal on fibre on here for a while so thought I would put this up.
  • I've cancelled Sky and have been without their service for the past 2 weeks.

Chatted to their online operator who was willing to do 50% off Sky TV (50% off appeared on MySky) but wasn't willing to do the half price on HD or multiroom.

Anyone had any success on getting 50% off HD and multiroom?

Also, any chance the 50% could increase if I hold off for longer (can hold off another month if its happens, as I'll be away).

    thanks
  • Contacted Sky via online chat today to cancel my account as my 50% discount is coming to an end.
First offered 25% with a years contract.
Then offered 50% again tied into a years contract.
Told them I will think about it and get back to them.
  • Has anyone tried haggling after renewing their subscription having been given half price phone rental for six months.

No point trying to "haggle" if you're signed into a new minimum term!
