Hi I've read a few historical posts for recent Sky deals but I'm struggling to ascertain what discounts people are getting for extras outside of their main TV package e.g. HD & multiscreen in particular, and how long they have to wait for them.

My own position is that I've just ended my first year with Sky where I qualified for a 50% discount off the main TV package (Family bundle + movies) plus full price multiscreen - no HD, phone or BB. The service was disconnected yesterday following my 1 month notice period. The 'my Sky' page on my account currently shows a 50% discount (which replaced a 35% discount that was shown up until the day of disconnection). I tried an on-line chat to see if I could haggle a discount on the multiscreen element but had no joy. What I'd like to find out from other members is how long I have to wait to get anything better than 50% off the main TV package alone to determine what I can reasonably hold out for e.g. 60-75% discount off the main TV and/or multiscreen, £50 bill credit, £1/month for HD etc.

    Thank in advance.

Once it's off no one can tell you how long you have to wait as it varies so much. From what I can tell people are no longer being offered 75% off. 60% or 50% + £50 credit seems to be the best people are getting right now. I think it mostly depends on who you speak to that determins how good of a deal you'll be offered.

Sky currently have a 1/2 price MR deal but only for new MR subs. Might be able to use that when negotiating a new deal seeing as you have cancelled your package.

A breakdown of my deals at sky so you have an idea what you can get but bare in mind I negotiated the PL and BB a month before my TV package.
Free Phone line and BB for 12 months.
    50% of sky TV + £50 credit
HD for £1 pm for 12 months
    2TB box for £49

So in total, spreading the £50 over 12 months I pay around £24 pm for PL, BB, family pack + sports in HD. Hope that helps.

Did you cancel tv (to get the higher offer), then negotiate on the still running phone line and broadband ?

My tv is 10 days ahead of broadband/phone line/Anytime calls, as it was installed first, so I am going to cancel the former (and aren't concerned about not having it back).

Also, was your free line and broadband initially subject to a £2.50 supplement until you reconnected tv ?

I called up and asked for free PL and BB and they said yes subject to a 12 month contract. My 1/2 price TV was coming to an end so a few days after that I cancelled my TV sub. They didn't give me the deal I wanted until around 5 days after my TV was switched off. I got a letter in the mail offering me 50% off so called up and tried to get 75%. They said no way no how but gave me £50 credit to close the deal.

For the 5 days my TV was off my free BB deal was recinded + they added on the £2.50 charge for not having TV. This added a few extra quid on my bill for that month as the TV was only off for a few days. When I reativated sky TV the free BB came back and got the 2TB box for £49 due to the hassle I went through lol.

If both were free, what was the point in tying you to a 12 months contract?

In fact the whole thing seems rather amazing that you simply phoned up, asked for free LR and BB and they just said yes.

The free BB was contingent on me keeping sky sports for the 12 months. If I cancel sky sports then I'd have to pay £7.50 pm for the bb. I too thought it was strange they were giving out free PL for 12 months like that but I guess its to counter BT?

My TV is due next month and I've just made an initial attempt. Was offered free broadband, £10 line rental (which are still in contract) and the basic TV I already have for £20/month. I'm hoping for a discount on the phone and broadband AND half price TV. I'll try again another day and see what they say.
  • Last week, I managed to get 60% off and £30 credit with the Sky TV Family Bundle. Which effectively makes it £10.70 a month for the next 12 months, nearly 68% discount...not bad I suppose. :j

I would advise others to aim for either 60% off, or 50% off with £50 credit. Although if you do the maths, the latter is a better deal. Both of the deals I have mentioned above are easy to get, just make sure you get through to the 'Winback Team' and are persistent. I also have the phone numbers if anyone wants them.

And before anyone asks, it's extremely unlikely you will also get the £30 credit like I did, long story why. So just aim for the two offers above as minimum. In addition, you could potentially get 75% off (if the offer appears on your Sky account from their end), otherwise you will not get it. Some Sky employees will tell you that they don't do 75% off anymore, but actually they do (only in the above rare instance). If you want anymore advice, just ask. :)

Smugness beyond belief Blueplanet. Just a bit of advice. It is all dependant on which package you have as to whether the 60% off or the 50% off with a credit is the better deal. Take all the tv on offer with HD you are significantly better off with 60%.
Yes you are unlikely to get a £30 credit with 60% off because you are more likely to get £50 credit if you just ask as I did.
Never ring them, let them ring you. They will. Once they ring you, you are on the front foot.

The irony of you calling me smug. You're funny.
