Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Hi folks - long time lurker, first time poster :-)
I used to have a Sky contract, but for various reasons went over to Virgin. Possibly the worst consumer decision I have ever made. The fiber serviuce is a goke - I reboot hte box about twice a night - and the Tivo box makes me want to cry or get in a rage.
Anyway, I am attempting to negotiate my way out of the Virgin contract, and provided I can, what should I be looking for in terms of price for a Sky sub? I don't want Sports or Movies, but do want pretty much everything else (including recording).
I already have a HD 500gb box and card, so I don't actually need any equipment.0 -

Regardless, I can't see you returning to Sky until your minimum term with Virgin ends.0 -
Well, we are 2 days into the 'switch off' and still no email/offer on sky.com/phone call......Got Now TV today for now to watch Sky Living/Atlantic and MTV and Nick Jr/Disney for kids as its only £12.50 at Argos with 4 months entertainment package inc, but I really do hope Sky phone to offer 50/60% off soon!0

Been with Sky for 3y. Was paying about £118 ppm. That was for their full package (all the packs + movies + sport) in HD on 2 TV's as well as phone and broadband.
Just phoned to cancel the TV sub just to see if I could live without.
I was offered 50% off for 6 months on the TV sub.
Tempted but stuck to my guns. Just letting you know what I was offered.
Feeling numb a bit. Not sure I will cope with no sky but its an experiment.0 -
I called sky today to cancel TV phone and broadband, was open to offers but not forthcoming.
When I requested they activate the months notice so I can move to Virgin they said that this would end my phone number so could no longer use the same number.
Does this mean if sky were to call back and offer a deal which I might accept that I would need to change my number?0 -
Your number would change after the phone service is switched over. If you were to accept a new deal from sky then the service would not disconnect and your number would continue as before.0

Thanks. Maybe i misunderstood. I think they said that when the one month notice is applied it removes the number from the active number register and cannot then be transferred to another provider.
If moving to Virgin I'm not sure if they can use the same numbers anyway so not a big deal but they gave the impression that as my number not on the register that it could get allocated to another line during the notice period. I took from this that if I changed my mind in 2 weeks or so that I would not be able to stay with sky on the same number.0 -
My Sky+ HD box is faulty after 18 months. Got told I need to pay a £65 service charge to fix it.
Rang up to cancel (so I could sign my OH up as a new customer after) but they offered a £30 fee and £10 off my bill for the next 12 months. Whilst it means I'm locked into a 12 month contract I'm happy enough, engineer coming Friday instead of in 2-3 weeks which were the only options I was getting online for new customer.
I think I'm a pushover compared to you lot on here, but happy with my teeny saving nonetheless!0 -

I assume this is Sky equipment? Having this already won't garner a better deal to return, since after twelve months away Sky will provide new equipment anyhow.
Regardless, I can't see you returning to Sky until your minimum term with Virgin ends.
If a company is providing the services you are paying for, they are in breach of contract. I believe I have a strong case that they are.
I won't be paying any early termination fee.0 -

They are only in breach of contract if they are not supplying services.
Regardless, I can't see them allowing you to cancel without penalty simply because you don't like TIVO.:p0
