I currently pay £51.24 for:
XL TV (V+)
Med BB
Talk Unlimited
I have a friend who has pretty much the same as this, though has an extra V+ box in another room - he pays slightly less! I have just spoken with Virgin asking for a better deal and mentioned my friend, they told me that he must be lying!! (Apparently I'm on their best deal). This does make me want to leave but to be honest all I want is to get the best deal available. Having read through some of what has been said on here I realise what an utter load of tosh that is so I am wondering what to do next. I am looking at other providers but am finding it really hard to compare prices/services. Basically I want phone, BB and tv with a recording box. I have XL tv at the moment but rarely watch any of the extra channels so could easily go without. We can't get freeview in our area which is frustrating as would simplify options. So as far as I can tell I only have a choice of Sky or Virgin.
Thanks in advance

Phone them back and tell them to cancel the lot as you're going to transfer to TalkTalk to get line rental, unlimited calls and unlimited broadband for £19.85 a month for 6 months, after which it rises to £27.10. Tell them you're just going to use freeview TV from now on. I'll bet you they offer you a big discount to stay with them.

Just use the 150 number and follow the option "you are thinking of leaving us", then you should get put through to retentions. Stick to your guns if they either don't offer anything or don't offer you a good enough discount. Give them your 30 days notice and wait patiently because they will call you back with an improved offer.
If they offer you an acceptable deal, make sure you confirm the contract period and ask them to email you details of the deal, because they have an uncanny habit of changing the terms after you've agreed to them on the phone. If you've got it in writing though, they'll need to honour it.
Let us know how you get on.0 -

I think that is their standard rate. When you say M BB, what speed are you on?The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
reading what others have got from sky recently, i think my timing must be off!
i've just rang, 3 different people & 20 mins later, all i was offered was:
1st person, downgrades - £10 p/mth reduction on tv pack for 6 months
3rd person, cancellations - £5 off multiroom for 6 mths or free multi room for 6 months but a 12 month tie-in.
rubbish!will try again in a few days i suppose...
for info: sky tv 4 pack with sports & movies/HD & multiroom/bb/phone, paying about £90 p/mth at the mo', not in a cabled area.0 -

I believe it is now the same as the Large BB at 10Mb.
Thanks c_Smith I might give that a go. When you ask for cancellation of your services, if they don't ring you back within the week do you have to follow through with it? Would be left without tv.0 -

It's 30 days notice you need to give them, so your services won't be cut off until the end of the 30 day period. You can call them up and cancel the cancellation any time before then.0 -

Just phoned sky to tell them I needed to reasses my finances and was offered a discount for 6 months ...gone from paying £72.50 a month to £46.50 saving me £156.......RESULT0

I've just spoken to sky, I've seen the other good deals people are being offered, and had been thinking about cancelling because of the cost anyway.
I was offered half price tv for 6 months, which would only save me about £12 a month on an almost £50 bill.
I wasn't happy with that so have put in my cancellation, how often do people get called with better offers after doing this?
Also, does anyone know a good broadband company with a high fair usage policy?0 -
Sky will call you within 2 months trying to get you back. A free HD box is the least they'll offer.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
