    Hi all,

I currently have the Virgin XL package (27 pounds). I have just received a mail shot offering the V+HD box, free extra box, free installation, free box activation and servicing for 24.50 per month + 13.90 pm for phone line.
The thing is I don't want the phone line as the calls are more expensive than BT. I also don't have a HD tv.

Any thoughts? I really would like to get the V+ box as alot of the programmes I like to watch are not on catch up on demand.:undecided

Where do you get broadband from ? If not VM and are willing to change to VM broadband then you might get a better price for all 3 by phoning retentions and cancelling - I am paying £36.99 pm with zero install for XL TV, V+ HD box, XL BB and M phone (phone will not be used in preference to BT line). You may be able to beat it - I waited 2 days for a call on my mobile after cancelling for that deal. When I called they offered £43.99 plus £79 install so worth waiting it out.

    Good luck

    Sky Installation
Sky take the PIS* they told me today 3 weeks before an engineer comes out to install a phone line for broadband, then a further 5-10 working days for broadband to be fitted, so in total 4-6 weeks before i can have internet, good job dongles are now common !!!!

Doesn't it always take a few days after installation before activating broadband?

The problem is that Sky don't actually connect the phone line.Part of BT (OPENREACH) actually do the phone line install - and if you look thru these forums you will quickly find out how b****dy unreliable they are!!

    Hi,
Looking for a judgement call from fellow hagglers.

Currently have following package with VM and out of contract

    XL Phone (unlimited calls anytime)
    Broadband M (actually only 8Mb)
TV M (yes just the basic)
But I have 2 tv lines, one to a V+ HD Box, the other a standard HD Box
All for the princely sum of £35 pm

I want to upgrade to TV XL (but no extras) ... just need disney channel and Broadband L (up to 30Mb).

VM have offered 12 month contract for ~£62 pm.

Anyone have any views on the VFM of this. I'm still a world away from chatting to retentions yet.
  • Can confirm this definately works. I've always been one for haggling and shopping round getting the best deal etc.

Joined virgin media last year with standard Vhd box 10mb broadband, free weekend calls, line rental and tv m+ for 33 quid a month.

Contract was up and phoned and booked cancellation as I'd had some problems with service and was going to switch to sky for better deal etc.

Cancellation was booked and their customer retentions team called me 20 times in a week whilst I was at work and wouldnt speak to my girlfriend as she isnt the account holder.

After finally getting hold of me and a bit of haggling I managed to get 30mb broadband (including the free super hub), TV XL + all extras espn etc, phone calls and line rental, a brand new Tivo box and Virgin multi room so I could have the old Vhd box in the bedroom for just 43 a month. Instead of the usual 70 a month,

Got tied in for another 12 months and had to pay 25 quid for the Tivo box. But didnt have to pay any set up/ instilation costs or any fee for HD activition etc.

For a extra tenner a month well worth it I'd say. From my experience if you cancel they will go out of their way to keep you. (However dont be a wally and say you've been offered a amazing deal from sky or bt as all three companies bt sky and virgin have access to all of eachother sites and know the others online deals etc). Be firm but fair dont go mad otherwise they wont offer you anything. However if you have a good idea of what you want you can get a great deal.
  • Rang Sky today as a new customer and got :

    £50 m&s voucher
12 month contract + free standard install
    sky+HD box
basic tv + 1 entertainment channel (thats all i want)
braodband connect (thats all i can have in my postcode)
landline with free evening and weekend calls

settled on £30.50 pm which is effectivley 12 months free line rental

I havent signed yet and they are callin me back at 8pm !

Tell them VM are offering you twenty megs at twenty-five pounds a month.

ETA: VM are offering their basic bundle of 10mbps BB (really 10mbps, I have the thirty meg service and often get 31mpbs, right now I am getting 31.63), M Television and M telephone (Unlimited weekend calls) at £32.99 a month. It might be worth calling to see if they are offering anything special to new customers

I have Sky+ and multiroom (ordinary box) and we have ESPN, all Sky sports channels and Sky Movies and currently pay £69 a month. I have had lots of calls from then regarding getting a free Sky HD box and I have always declined due to not wanting to pay the extra £10.25 a month.

Today I got a call and the guy on the line said to reward loyal customers (they listen to us!) are giving me an HD box free, free installation, free HD subscription, and we are taking another multiroom subscription (we are moving the existing Sky+ box to my son's room and we are having his Sky box in our bedroom; however they are giving us a credit on our account of £100 which will cover the extra multiroom subscription for the best part of the year.

    Installation date 20 June :)
