  • I called Sky this morning to see if I could get any savings on my package and the gentleman was adamant that there was nothing he could do.

I went away, researched the products I wanted for TV, Broadband and Line rental, discovering I could be saving elsewhere so rang them back.

It was important the second time that I actually was put through to the cancellations department and it took me to the stage where she asked me to confirm I wanted to cancel, when I said 'Yes, unless there is anything you can do for me', to which she did and we settled on 12 months Half Price Line Rental - a saving of £100!!

    Thank you Martin Lewis!
  • After reading Martin's tips on haggling I decided to give it a go myself with Sky. We have been with Sky for 3.5 years and it does irk me that newbies would get a better deal than loyal customers. Add to that, as Rugby fans we had to pay an extra £15 this year for BT Sport to be able to follow our sport.

So I rang Sky today and threatened to leave and as we have been with them so long I managed to get 2 offers - one of 20% off our TV package, and the other 50% off our line rental. A total saving of £20 per month, cancelling out the BT sport cost and saving us a bit extra. A total saving of £220 for the year!

I think it helped to be polite to the customer service rep, be clear we didn't want to go through with the hassle of moving but for the saings we would make with going to BT then we would do it if needs be.

    Thanks for all your tips!
  • Cancelled sky way back in October last year. Have virgin phone and broadband and at Xmas got a call to say free tv medium plus for 3 months and I could cancel it after it pay an extra £10 a month. Tv can go off at end of March. Not heard anything from sky. Is it worth calling and asking if they have any returning offers it am I wasting my time?

I am yet to hear of anyone being prosecuted for fraud for taking out a sky subscription in their own name
Taking a new subscription in someone else's name is what the discussion was about.

.... is that because it isn't fraud?
Sky won't prosecute, just refuse to offer new customer deals and equipment.

You would probably be better to cancel,
    I agree

wait a few weeks then call back just before you are cut off and say you received an offer of 50% in the post and see what they can do.
This thread shows conclusively that the best deals are given to those who cancel and mean it, ringing just before being cut-off will not result in the best deal. Better to wait for Sky to get in contact...

We have the full SKY package, I've just called to cancel and was offered half price line rental and upon pushing a bit more 20% off the tv package. I put my cancellation notice in, in the hope they may call me back with a better offer before they switch us off. I'm worried it could backfire horribly and I will end up Mrs nasty mummy/wife in our house!

    Well done mrsw1983, stay strong.

How much is your sky bill usually - surely the family will enjoy that much extra to spend on going out if the worst comes to the worst and it does actually go off?

Personally in my house we are away most weekends so don't watch sky and in the evenings its mostly the terrestrial channels we watch... its only the odd weekend when we are at home that I might watch the football but if I am doing that then i'm not doing DIY so I would be better off losing it to be honest. Occasionally my wife watches a film but thats usually because there is nothing else on and its something to watch but again, doubt she would miss it. I honestly hope they do cut me off and I would happily hold out for 75% off but in reality if they do call me (and they have the last four times) before cut off and offer 50% off then I will probably take it :D
A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.
  • After not hearing back from sky in almost 5 months, do you think I should hold out longer or call and ask if any deals for returning customers?

I posted a number a couple of days ago, if you look back a few posts on this thread. Called the number after getting a 50% offer through the post. I asked if the 75% off was still available even though I had never received that offer and they said yes..... £20.75 for all channels with HD!

    Give it a try!

    Hang in there! Good luck.

Have a look at Plusnet. Their current £2.50 unlimited offer ends 25th feb, I think and there is a possible £105 cashback with TCB. (offer is 12 months for 18month contract line rental up front £11pm)
