Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Been away from Sky tv for a blissful 6 weeks or so and yesterday got the 50% off tv flyer that for some reason also includes 50% off B/B. Never cancelled my B/B with them as i am happy with it, they must think that getting a £6.25 per month discount on my B/B will entice me to depart with £16 per month for tv.0

Thank you for your help0 -
Am currently in my notice period with sky. Due to be cut off February 2nd. Just had a flyer through for free unlimited broadband for 12 months. If I were to take up this offer during my notice period would it prevent any further tv package offers coming my way? Many thanks0

Finally managed to catch a call from Virgin retentions. Explained why I was unhappy and said that the extra £5 discount that was being removed in a couple of months, on top of the price rise, was the final straw and that I could get a far better package from other suppliers.
He said he would need to speak to his manager and came back after a few minutes to say that he could discount the price rise and apply the discount for another 24 months. The phone package is the pain as it limits what we can get offered but its been good value for us so far. Tried to see if I could get the Disney kids channels as an add on but the only way to get them would be to go to TV XL and that would put the price up to around £67 - young son will be happy to continue using his Gran's Sky Go account to watch Mickey mouse particularly as he doesn't know any better
So the package remains at £30 for
TV M
Phone XL + multi-talk 150
BB L 30Mb
As this is a new 12 month contract I then asked about the line rental saver and can pay £120 for 12 months and the package price drops to £15.01 which gives a effective monthly price of £25.010 -
Quick question around haggling with Sky - do they usually make you sign up for another 12 months?
I'm out of contract with Sky and I am thinking of ringing up tonight to get a better deal, however I am seriously thinking of emigrating at some stage this year so don't want to get locked into a 12 month contract.
Am I likely to get a discount but stay on a month to month contract?0 -
Nah, offers to rejoin usually don't involve a contract unless you want new equipment.0

I have the following with Virgin:
Phone: Talk Evening and Weekends
Broadband: XXL (120MB)
TV Size: XL (top one without sky movies / sports)
500MB Tivo
Additional V+ HD upstairs
I was paying £65.85 + £14.99 = £80.84
It was due to go up £5.75 so would have been £85.75 from next month.
I called retentions at the weekend, the only difference to my package is that I changed evening and weekend calls to weekend only, and I added caller ID which they did for free. Obviously I'm now in a new 12 month contract.
I also did the line rental saver which makes line rental £10 a month and my package is now:
£56 + £10 (rental with upfront saver) with an additional £5 a month off for 6 months.
So £61 for 6 months, then £66 after.
This was my first call to retentions and I was happy with that offer as I rarely see a decent virgin offer in this thread.
Oh and I payed the line saver on my Tesco card, so will get points for that0 -
I am a sky customer of 7 years, never had any offers before and never cancelled before. I currently have HD, Multiroom, Sports, kids, documentaries etc, Unlimited Broadband and Weekend phone too.
I currently pay £95.90 per month and tbh would be more than happy with a 50% deal.
I have just phoned to cancel. I have cancelled my TV but was told by the adviser that if i cancel my Phone then i will lose my number if i wanted to go to a different provider. This really isnt an option because i use the phone number for my business.
1, Is the adviser telling the truth?
2, Will i get any offers by just cancelling my TV and not BB/phone?:beer:0 -

You will only get offers if you ask for them. If youre a silent customer it means youre a happy customer.
1. 10% true. 90% untrue. Usually you get to keep it with most providers except for Virgin. No one can guarantee this though
2. Unsure. You probably will.
Suggestion - Ring again and just say you want to cancel all as youre paying a high price whilst a few of your work colleagues have told you that they got a nice deal to stay on. (Please dont say you read on a forum...) Then they will offer you something over the phone and just take it. it seems like you dont really want the hassle and you dont want to lose your phone either so best off doing this. They will certainly knock something off and if you are not getting anywhere then just hang up and dial another day.
Also, if they try to get smart like asking what your friends name is or accounts just say that the advisor doesnt need to know this and they got a deal like half price off line rental and tv. also, if they ask who you will jump ship to, just say you are thinking of talk talk or EE or BT. They will prob say their land line is cheaper than all the rest then just say well they are offering a nice discount for X amount of months if i go through uswitch0 -

Or an extra service. We added a multiroom (full price) with the 75% off deal for adult kids to pay and this meant a 12 month contract. Without the multiroom we could have just had 75% off but no contract.I have just phoned to cancel. We went from Sky to Plusnet and retained our number. You can normally revert back to any previous supplier and retain, you may struggle to swap from say Sky to TalkTalk and retain your number.0
