Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

OK you haggling experts how do I approach this ?
I currently have a Sky+ box which is seriously playing up when it comes to pausing or rewinding and needs changing. Over the last 4 years I've have had two faulty boxes exchanged for reconditioned Sky + boxes for free but am wondering whether I now have an opportunity to get a sky+HD box?
My current package is entertainment extra with sports and I have one normal box in a bedroom as part of multi room for which I pay £61.25. My broadband and phone is half way through a contract with BT so moving to Sky is not an option.
My other slight complication is that my old Phillips LCD tv only has a DVI connection and is 720 resolution although I could use a HDMI to Dvi adaptor. In the long term I will upgrade the tv but in the meantime how can I get the best deal to obtain the HD box for least money? My current package is just right for me and I don't want to take off anything or add movies.
The last time I tried to haggle with SKY the cancel threat did little and whilst I did actually cancel I had to call back on day 28 as I had heard nothing. When I called back I got a measly £12 off for 6 months which ended two months ago
I would welcome any advice on how to approach this?0 -

If visiting the sky site dont forget to go through Quidco as they currently have up to 100 pounds cashback0 -
Hi,
Cancelled our TV subscription on 12th Dec, also have bb and phone but keeping those for now. So TV due to go off in 7 days and so far I've had one call offering 35% discount which I rejected. Reason I gave for cancelling was money being tight rather than going elsewhere and they initially tried to convince me to just remove channels to reduce costs and then came back with the 35% after I cancelled.
Anyway I do have a question in that if/when it goes off in 7 days will we still be able to watch the programmes we have previously recorded on the box? Have to say that I think not having the sky+ record/rewind facility will not be well received by my wife and 3 year old (peppa pig recordings etc!)so want to be clear what to expect.
As for the discount I'm hoping we don't have to wait months after the box goes off before the call comes but I'd like to get the 75% off so suspect I may have to knock back the 50% and wait a while before it comes - is that the experience of others who have got the 75%??
Thanks0 -

I gave my notice a few days ago and was also told that once the tv cuts out you will no longer be able to watch any recorded programs.0 -

I sincerely doubt any Sky employee would tell you that recordings would still be available after cancellation. I fear you've misunderstood.0 -

However, should you wish to re-subscribe at some point you'll find all your old recordings are still on the hard drive. You can also pay Sky £10.25 a month to enable recordings of the Free-To-Air channels.

If you did pay the £10.25 per month for the recording feature (not that I would), can you still access recorded material from the Sports, Movies etc or is it just FTA content?0
