You're lucky you got a call! I cancelled on the 27th November and haven't had a single call . Everything went off 2 days ago, it's not the channels I miss but it's so annoying not being able to pause, rewind or record. I just hope the win back department calls soon, I don't know how much longer I can console my little girl about no more disney junior!

Check your "MySky" account, if you refused Sky marketing calls they'll never contact you (and you can't change MySky when you are no longer a customer)

The marketing box is ticked, we got the call 5 days after the cancellation request 6 months ago but I guess they are not short of subscribers at this time of year!

If they don't call it's not a problem, eventually we will have saved up enough for one of those free view boxes that work with the sky dish and we won't have to suffer there none recording box any longer!

Aren't you auto opted in to receive marketing emails, unless you un-click the box.

I am in my notice period and I am yet to respond to their Exec Support Team email from yesterday.

Just got a text saying... Hi, there has being an update to help your request. To view this click on (link) and view MHR (numbers).

Clicked on it but couldn't see what they are trying to communicate on MySky account page. Anyone else had a similar text message, thanks.

I just called to cancel as I go on mat leave soon and can no longer afford the £76 a month.

They talked me down to 31.50 a month, but only by canceling pretty much everything we had. The only thing they offered was £12.90 off broadband & phoneline for 9 months!!! (and that was after I said no, I'd like to cancel please - twice) We've been customers for 5 and a half years on the top package.

They also suggested I don't cancel via them but by third party if thats the way we wanted to go (I didn't say we would be moving to another supplier)

What did I do wrong? I think we will go to Virgin now on principle (and it's cheaper too) even though it'll be a hassle swapping.

I'm unclear from the above if you actually accepted their offers on the TV side of things and just said about cancelling the Phone and Broadband.... with you saying about "cancelling through a third party" I guess so as you can't cancel your TV that way....

So what did you do wrong.....

    1. Did you read the thread as loads of great advice has been given previously...

    2. (assuming above is correct) you didn't put your cancellation notice in on the TV as thats the way to get offers for that.....

    3. For TV and Broadband, perhaps you just got unlucky speaking to the wrong person so would advise ringing back, playing dumb and saying you need your MAC code so you can move your internet to <insert provider here>.... hopefully they'll ask what deal you are moving to and when you tell them they might match it or beat it.

    Good luck.

  • We have the top Virgin package with everything in it (Phone, TV,(all channels) and Internet, and we pay well over £100 pcm. We don't feel it is value for money but wouldn't go to Sky as we have had bad CS experiences with them in the past.

We are out of contract now, does anyone have an idea of what a realistic figure to haggle them down to would be for all the above?

I was told by Sky I didn't need a MAC to give to another ISP? Is this true?

Yes it is true, but ringing up and asking for one shows them you are thinking of leaving which will hopefully lead to an offer to stay.

We have a couple of record-able freesat boxes for our annual game of hunt the sky discount. We give notice and swap to freesat when $ky goes dark.

Its purely a waiting game. 1st year it took nearly 3 months (it's then you realise you can live without sky) and then we ended up with it all 100% free for 11 months in total. That came to an end in November and their deals were shocking so we gave notice again and it went off. Out came the freesat boxes again but only for 3 weeks !! Currently on 12 months @ 75% off. We will start the whole process again when we give notice at the end of Oct 2014.

No, you have to tell them your preferences. Some people opt out early in their subscription and don't realise until it is too late that they cannot change this after cancellation.
