Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

I've had a letter today confirming my cut off date saying "if there's anything we can do to change your mind... all you need to do is call" but think I'm just going to let them call me. If they don't going to see how we get on without.
Wise tactic: leave the ball in Sky's court. It will, sooner or later, come back in quest of at least some money from you for what you want. (If, indeed you still want Sky by then.)
Consider these as an alternative. One off-cost, more free HD channels coming soon, twin tuners, large hard drive and nothing to pay for recording or playing back. Ever.
Worth buying anyway, in the meantime, with what you will save by not paying Sky. And once you have one of these, it changes the way you look at Sky, I promise you: you don't need Sky any more so you have them over a barrel when it comes to doing a deal.Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

Been with Sky for 6 years and was paying £27 a month for Entertainment Extra. Phoned up 2 weeks ago and was offered 25% off which I declined and asked to cancel.
Just had a call and said I was going to Virgin for half price for a year and he instantly offered me the same.
Ent Extra, Sports and Movies for £28.50. No contract.
I also want to say the bloke I spoke to was very very helpful and friendly. Which was good.0 -
ok, so i phoned up just now to cancel sky and went through with it, they were only prepared to offcer me free BB for 12 months, saving me £7.50, so i thought id try and hold out for more as id been with them for 12 years! but im nervous now, ive never gone this far towards cancelling, i know i have 30 days before my sky is cut off, but they said i was still tied in to BB until November. will this affect my cancellation? i dont really want to leave sky but im wondering if they wont bother trying to keep me for some reason. to break my BB contract was £9 which wasnt enough to make me backtrack on my cancellation threat. but i guess im just a bit shocked that they said 'yep, thats all done for you' thanks........actually just got a text message from sky saying they'll be in touch shortly......does that mean they'll offer me a deal to stay?
lots of questions! sorry!)

Having read on the forum of some of the discounts available I decided to chance my luck and cancel Sky. I currently have the full package including broadband and it was costing me £80 a month.
When I phoned to cancel on at the end of July I didn't get offered anything even though I said I was leaving to join Virgin. I had read how others had waited to get a call so I decided to try this knowing I could always call up and reinstate the service.
My nerve was starting to weaken when I got a call from Sky on 19th August offering my half price TV for 12 months. This has taken my monthly payment down to £46.56 a month and I am more than happy!!
Just glad that I had read similar stories on this forum and kept my nerve, I would urge everyone else to as well.0 -
I'm a current virgin media customer and currently only have broadband which is good but expensive (£23.65pm). But, I fancy getting sky sports.
Sky just offered me sky entertainment (atlantic, arts, living etc), sky sports package, bt sport, broadband, phone (weekend calls free) plus free installation for £36pm for 12 months. After 12 months it rises to £65 (!) but I am in my rights to cancel or renegotiate. Has anyone done something similar to this before? Can you cancel/renegotiate easily after 12 months?0 -
After the min term (normally 12 months) you can cancel or see what offers they have.0

Hi All, I had cold call 2 days ago from a comany called Consumer Care Direct who said they could get me 20% of my current virgin package, ples 15% on utility bills, and supermarket shopping, they are basically a call centre. I called Virgin who were non comiittal, they have an arrangement with a 3rd party who brings them business on a group basis, but would not say who they were. The company offered me the service for an annual fee of £69. Has anyone heard of them, is it a scam. If not why does this website not direct us to them for the discounts?
Thanks0
