DON'T PANIC!!!!!!
They always do this.... its a game of nerves now.... they have nothing to lose by letting you give your 30 days notice and then leaving it to the absolute last minute to call and offer you a half price deal.... they just hope you give in first and call them back.
Just make sure you answer your phone when they call you back. My last deal, they called back the day before my cut off day.A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

Sky didn't even attempt to get me to stay. I will be glad to be rid frankly as they are so damn expensive. Any wonder eBay is full of receivers with "free gifts"0

Surprise Surprise
"We have tried to get in touch with you as you are missing some security details, please call us on 0844 number"
And the funny thing is that I can prove that they have made no attempts at phoning up.
I've replied
"It seems you have misread my email as I can not ring up 0844 numbers due to restrictions on my line". Ball is back in Sky's court now.0 -
Do you really consider it's worth all the hassle of what you're doing when all you have to do is ring them up and cancel it over the 'phone?
OK, Sky tries to insist on it and they may not be within their rights to demand that but if you truly want to leave why not just pick up the 'phone and do it, getting shot of the whole thing in five minutes? It's so much simpler and less time-consuming than playing silly bu66ers with them.
Last time I did this, the guy (a nice enough chap) started into the usual ritual as to why I wanted to leave (they have to ask that) and I simply said, very politely, "Look, why are you asking me all these questions? I just want to cancel the subscription with effect from (date), so let's get on with it." He sighed and said "OK", confirmed the date of termination and that was the end of it.
We got a letter confirming the cancellation and the signal was cut off on the date we had agreed.
Time is money and hassle is hassle. Why waste your own time and money generating a whole lot of hassle for yourself? Life is too short to squander on being perverse and stubborn over such a simple thing as cancelling a Sky subscription.Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

Whatever this 'restriction' is can be gotten round by looking up an alternative number on saynoto0870.0 -

we were paying a similar amount & have no viable alternative to sky, but i recently wimped out on going through with a cancellation(knowing full well that i'd call to cancel it before it ever happened).
let us know if sky do contact you before your 'off' date, good luck0 -
Finally got around to phoning them up this evening.
Passed the security questions, said I wanted to leave as I don't make use of it (95% of the programs watched are available on FreeSat), the lady put me on hold, and 5 minutes later the line went dead.
Thanks Sky for costing me a couple quid (probably spent 10 minutes) to get nowhere.0 -
I've been with Virgin for years and pay around £60 p/m for phone, broadband and XL TV. Now I've discovered ESPN footie has gone with nothing to replace it.
I don't want the full Sky Sports package but would like some games.
Seems to me the BT package is perfect for me - 18-month contract, £16pm (reduced to £8 pm for first 12 months) plus line rental of £15.45 (or 141 /year).
With £10 Quidco and a £25 Sainsbury's voucher, I make that around £300 (plus the last 6 months line rental) over the whole 18-month contract.
Am I missing something?0 -
Hi
I've been on the following Virgin Media package for ages and wonder if I'm paying too much. Is this a fair deal? Would be grateful for advice on whether I'm likely to succeed at haggling it down?!
Loyalty Pack B B/ Phone/TV B
Talk Weekends
Fully Itemised Billing
TV Size: X L
1 Additional V Box
V+ HD Monthly Fee
TiVo Monthly Fee
Broadband M (Up To 20mb)
Telephone Line Rental
Total £53.140 -
Canned my Virgin Media TV and landline.
Kept my VM Broadband after a retention deal.
Had 500GB Tivo box, 2 additional boxes,
60 BB
XL TV
M Phone line with Talk Weekends.
No retention deal, £70 a month.
Spoke to Sky advisor through the website and got SKY TV on a great 1/2 deal.
I have SKY Entertainment Extra Plus, Movies, Sports all in HD for £35 a month.
My VM BB was kept at 60Mb and instead of £29.50 a month I got a retention deal to £18 a month.
So £53 a month for more channels with the sports and movies.
In comparison VM would want £108 a month for the same package.0
