I've been with VM for years and would rather stay with them if I can negotiate a better deal if this is considered reasonable.

For the package you have jicms I think its expensive.

I paid around £67 a month for XL TV, M Phone, Large 60MB BB and my Tivo box and 2 other boxes.

They are not giving many discounts anymore and taking channels away from the TV aspect.

Phone up and do your research first. What would a new customer pay? That should be the minimum you should expect. They didn't offer me that so I gave my 30 days notice without any struggle and not even one call from retentions or the cancellation team to ask why I was leaving. The lady I spoke to was very good but understanding of the situation.

Anyone if Sky still throw in free HD in to deals sometimes? I tried hard for that last week and the guy wouldn`t budge. No free HD or free upgrade from EE to EE+ (which gives some free HD channels).
After a long time I was eventually offered 25% off for 6 months. Politely declined.
It certainly does seem like the `great` deals are drying up.

  • I'm currently with virgin, and paying a rip-off:

    M TV
    20MB BB
    Talk weekends
    Asian Mela TV package
    V HD box

I pay £44 per month for that! I phoned up Sky and they offered me £50 per month for ALL channels, upto 17MB BB, talk weekends and a Sky + 3D box. Virgin should get the landline port notification on Monday, let's see what they offer.

They said they can do a paltry £5 off per month, but new customers get the deal (minus the mela pack) for £7.50 for 3 months, then £14.99 after that. They even get a free Tivo box! Virgin will lose a customer of 7 years if they don't do something worthwhile.
  • Canned my Virgin Media TV and landline.

Kept my VM Broadband after a retention deal.

Had 500GB Tivo box, 2 additional boxes,
    60 BB
    XL TV
M Phone line with Talk Weekends.

No retention deal, £70 a month.

Spoke to Sky advisor through the website and got SKY TV on a great 1/2 deal.

I have SKY Entertainment Extra Plus, Movies, Sports all in HD for £35 a month.

My VM BB was kept at 60Mb and instead of £29.50 a month I got a retention deal to £18 a month.

So £53 a month for more channels with the sports and movies.

In comparison VM would want £108 a month for the same package.
I think I'll do the same thing now! I take it the £35 with Sky is without multi-room?
  • Sky phoned me today - 24hrs before my cancellation notice period expires - and offered me 12mths half price Sky World Plus Sports with no contract tie-in. I accepted (mainly because I don't want to lose my Sky+ recordings) and asked him why the staff on the customer service or cancellations teams weren't prepared to make the same offer 30 days ago when I first phoned. Was told that they just don't have them available to offer when first called by customers. He also told me to call back after the 12 month offer expires to discuss further deals.

IMHO its a game of cat and mouse. I was fully prepared to go through with the cancellation as I needed to save money. It seems it pays to have the courage to follow your convictions. I first called them mid-July to tell them I needed to save money, they offered me nothing just tried to sell me Broadband or cut my services to save money. I called them again a week later to say "look I know you offer deals so lets stop playing around and tell me what you can offer me to stay". They said £9 per month off the whole Sky World package I was on. I said no and committed to going through with the cancellation. 8 missed calls and two weeks later, I answered the call this morning and hey presto - half price for 12 months. (I've heard if you say no to half price they offer you free for 6 months but I didn't want that anyway).

Didn't someone once say that the deals come round in circles so some months are good retention deals, some months are not-so-good retention deals?
  • My husband and I are seperating at the moment we pay £75.99 a month for our package, plus an extra box in my daughters room,I am worried I won't beable to afford this package so rung Virgin to see what they could do,they said they can either knock £10 a month off the bill or if I go back to paying by DD,then the monthly payment would go down to £56.99,is this a good deal please, not sure what to do,can't move to Sky as only went to Virgin in January, any advice please? Thanks

    Any thoughts here?
Spoke to Sky and asked about an offer I was told was on my account by an online advisor. Turns out it was 20% off for 8 months, she asked if I wanted to apply that now and I declined (I`m currently on 20% till Sept anyway, and the new 8 months offer will still be an option in Sept). I informed them I was moving in 3 months and asked what was stopping me cancelling my sky and signing up again under new address and my wifes name. She told me nothing was stopping me and I would get the 50% off for 12 months but I`d lose the bonus of my being a loyal customer!
So what`s better - starting again and gettin the 50% 12 month deal, or keep going with these 20% offers I`ve been on?
P.S I`v been on 20% off for 19 months now.
    Thanks

Assuming you cant cancel it completely due to the min term then switching to paying by DD seems a no brainier for the amount it will save you.
