just an update, im already getting half price on my tv package for 12 months , that started last week.

Thought i would try my luck with multiroom and hd so sent an email saying i wanted to give my 31 days notice to cancel.

got a phone call 5 minutes ago, they gave me another 50% off both hd and multiroom for 12 months.

they confirmed my bill for this month will be £15, and £43 a month after that, that covers multi room, hd, entertainment extra and the full sports package as well as broadband.

    edit.

just checked my monthly costs on mysky

    Monthly cost with offers £42.74

    for all of the above,

think i will try broadband next, tell them im going to bt because you get the sports channels for nothing.

if i could get half price broadband that would take me down to £36 a month

can i just ask, people that are phoning Sky to say you'll cancel, if you've been offered 50% off (or similar), do you have another viable provider? just trying to gauge if this is the main factor as to why some are being offered a deal & others aren't.

we're in a non-cabled area & i'll bet my last 1p that if i phone to cancel, they'll just say 'ok'!!

    thanks :)

I suspect that if you are in a cabled area that will make a decent deal more likely.

Aberdeen is not a cabled area.

Being a long term customer may help, on both my current 50% off deals the agent(s) said that as a loyal long term customer that they were happy to give me discount to keep me.

Ive been with Sky for 12 years.

I just called sky I had a very good offer from virgin last week in the post. Sky said they will try and match it

    virgins offer
Half price tv for 12 months
    Free HD for 12 months
    Free muilt room with boxes
Half price line rentel for 12 months
Half price £10 fibre for 12 months

Waited for around 20 mins on the phone for skys offer and all they could offer me was half price line rentel but gave me lots of warnings of how bad virgin are and I would end up paying lots more money.

You need to call their bluff and cancel.

once you have done that, they will phone you and the offers will flood in. I always cancel by email through mysky and wait for the phone call.

i stated i wanted to cancel multi room and HD last night and got the phone call today. took one day for them to phone me and did not need to cancel as they gave me the offer without prompting.

I actually got my letter through the post re me cancelling sky tv, they had phoned me the night before to offer me the 50% of the tv package.

Sky does not bluff. Sky calls bluffers.

    Sky has called Bunnygirl's bluff.

If you can't grasp that, I'd advise you never to play poker for money.

Has Aberdeen got Sky Broadband? We've been with Sky for 17 years and not received any discount when cancelling.

A lot also depends on how much you currently spend with Sky obviously.

Possibly so, but perhaps not in the way that you think and imply.

We are currently on our fourth successive 50% twelve months.

And we subscribe only to the Entertainment channel and HD.

In the past, they've suggested (somewhat half-heartedly) that we give up the HD channel if we'd like to save money. I point out that if we gave up the HD we'd lose the Formula One channel and that without the Formula One channel it wouldn't be worth keeping the Entertainment channel by itself – even at 50% off. So, Sky would lose us completely.

This creates a form of Mexican stand-off. There's nothing else Sky can suggest that we could give up. We're already on the lowest tariff. :)

And then, of course, there's the fact that the smaller our subscription, the less it costs Sky to discount it.

Whereas, conversely, the more you are paying, the less inclined Sky is to discount it – because the amount of money Sky would lose by doing so is greater.

My point is that even at the cheapest end of the Sky offerings, Sky is keen to keep subscribers by offering discounts.

Things are not always what they appear to be at first sight – particularly with Sky. You need to think through the economics of it from Sky's point of view.

Phoned Sky on Monday to cancel after 15 years as loyal customer paying full price throughout for full entertainment pack, Sports, HD and Multiroom. Was told that due to Martin Lewis going on TV and telling everyone to haggle with Sky they were no longer able to offer any deals to leaving/loyal customers. So I cancelled. I wonder if I will get a letter. If they call, what does the caller display show the number as?
