Wanting to reduce our Sky bill from £91 per month, I rang sky asking to cancel Sports (which DH watches 24/7) and movies which we only watch occasionally. The operator just asked why I wanted to cancel, so I told him we couldn't really afford them anymore and didnt watch them much. OK he said, with no attempt to make me keep the channels and proceeded to tell me cut off date (3/08) and how much we would be paying after that. Upto now 2 wks later, no contact from sky..........DH says he will do with out but we'll have to see.......

I did the same 6 weeks ago with sports (after reading on here how everyone was phoning up cancel sports as the football season was over and was promptly being offered half price sports deals for 3 months).....now I have no sports :o

No call at all. Just shows not everyone gets offered these deals, and bluffing doesn`t always work!

Hi all, anyone got any advice for me?

Currently have the basic TV package, phone and unlimited broadband with Sky... which should be £43.50 I think.

They have offered us £32 which is probably more than we want to be paying. From people's experience do you think there is any chance of getting the above package for about £25 if we cancel and wait for a phone call? Has anyone had that kind of offer for that sort of package?

If a better offer isn't realistic I think we'll have to decide whether we want to pay £32 or whether we will finally move.

We've been customers for just over two years so not exactly
longstanding customers with high loyalty in case people think that's a factor. Any opinions?
  • Hi, do any of you money savers have an opinion on TalkTalk TV? I have just had this installed after being a Sky TV customer for many years, I'm not overly impressed so far and contemplating cancelling and moving to Virgin, just looking for some advice :)
    Thanks everyone!

Well your done 6 weeks without Sports now the ball is in your court phone them up & ask to cancel as you have had sky without sports..& its not for you as you don't watch the channels only a bit of live sport when its on...your soon get some offers.. look for at least 25% off the full package for 12 months...as the sky rep told me the next day after i cancelled there's always a deal to be done..don't know if this helps but the scottish call centre does not seem to be open after 6pm these days... if you speak to the indian one forget about a deal

seems a good discount for your spend about 25% off.. bigger discounts come with a bigger package most of the time..

    Hiya,
Just got my code for half price Sky but now I've just seen the tv offer from Talk Talk.
Currently have TT for phone and broadband, sky's package for this alone is ten pounds more, speed is rubbish and it's not unlimited.
I'll stick with TT for that but not sure who should provide tv.
Any thoughts would be very much welcomed
  • I canceleld my sky TV last week as i was after a good deal and was only offered £5 off my sports channels a month,i have just noticed the 50% off codes for new customers, can i open a new account in my wifes name when it finishes or will this look too suspicious ?

My colleague in the office has last week genuinly cancelled Sky TV with Sports and Movies.
Already has had 2 calls. 1st 12 months halfprice. 2nd 6 Months free of charge.
He is probably the 1st person ever not to accept the free offer.
  • I renewed my virgin contract yesterday. They initially called me and offered me a loyalty discount of £2 pcm to stay on same package (errrr.....you can do better than that!)

I have 30mb unlimited, M+ TV and wknd calls paying £37pcm. I said I wanted a Tivo box for the same price as a loyalty bonus but they said the only way that could happen is if I took the basic (M) tv package and the 150 minute phone package AND there would be a Tivo installation charge. So i'd be getting less and paying more! (how dumb do they think we are?)

So I said I would leave it and see what my options were. I then researched competitive deals (with Sky and BT) - Sky had a half price 12 month deal with sky sports but with up to 11mb BB and Sky HD+ box for £38. Waited for Virgin to call back - asked if they could match that offer (they couldn't because of the sky sports) but I said I wanted a Tivo for £35 they agreed but said I would have to pay £49.99 installation charge! I said I didnt want to pay this, they said OK, £6.99 installation and £39pcm (they just don't learn!)
After about 5 minutes of merry go round - they said they would meet me half way - £25 for installation and £35 pcm, I didn't take it straight away and pushed for free installation but from the conversation the sales adviser let slip that for Tivo installation there are 3 options on their system - full price (£49.99), half price (£25) and Minimum £6.99. I couldn't get him down to the minimum so went for the half price in the end - but I would have saved this with the monthly discount from £37 to £35 anyway.

So don't let them charge you full price for installations! They have options to reduce the price
