Please note, doesn`t always work. As I said on Saturday I gave my notice and got offered nothing
That is true. But you can always call up on day 29 and say that you have changed your mind and the cancellation request gets removed.

In their situation, would you give more attention to someone who threatened to do something or someone who actually did something.

Nothing is guaranteed. Some people just don't get offers, some get them immediately, some get them nearer to the cancellation date, some get them after cancelling. However, you must actually hand in your notice to have a chance of getting any meaningful offer.

If you don't get anything at all then at least you can take advantage of new customer offers 12 months later.

I was a customer of sky for years and years and years. Left them twice and on coming back was offered the brand new hd box, but turned them down as my old work still worked. Thought I was being a good customer by not having them replace something that was still working well. Then a few years into my new contract the box starts playing up (box is a good 8 years old by this point), so I rang sky and said can i have a new box please. They said yes, thats £50 please.

So obviously I refused to pay that, explained I was a good customer and turned down replacement boxes in the past, but that got me no where other than 'you should have taken them'. Well yes I would have had I known you'd make me pay in the future.

So I decided to cancel. They were not particularly bothered ... tried haggling me down, even offered me the box for £5 but out of principle I declined because I had been offered TWO hd boxes in the past.

So I cancelled. 30 days before the termination date my husband phoned sky and took out a new contract, wham bam, new box, new deal.

Having other issues with them at the moment. But having been a customer for many years you do not get the best rewards by staying. For the time being every time the contract ends my husband and I will switch. One day I will take the plunge and move to Virgin or something.

I have been with virgin for 12 years and I cancelled my contract I am currently paying £42 for xl tv/ 30mg BB and just phone rental. I had that special call and the two offers were.
    1) Pay 12 months in advance line rental £120
Option 1 £39.99 per month. He did not say the advance line rental included so when I quizzed him it was not total £49.99 so £8 more. He then offered me £15 off for 6 months.
Option 2 £31 p/m and also pay line rental in advance total £41p/m
I declined both felt like they were try to make sound cheaper but you still have to add in the advanced line rental.
Any better offer u think? Only one week in to my 30 days

We have negotiated a half price deal that's just started so not too concerned about that.
