Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

I called to cancel Sky for the third time today. Each time I go through 15 minutes of them talking about what I watch and why I'm cancelling etc. and then get told they can't cancel my account. First it was because I'd already cancelled Sky Movies and couldn't have two cancellations on my account at once. Then it was because I was due to move house. Now I get told I have to wait until tomorrow, despite being told before that I can cancel today.
I was also told two falsehoods by the advisor today that I had to correct: first, I was told that I couldn't give my 31 days notice to cancel until my contract had expired, and second, that when I give my 31 days notice to cancel all discounts will immediately disappear.
Currently they've broken my account and are trying to fix it and will call me back (a likely story). I was on the phone for 45 minutes, about 30 minutes of which was spent on hold, and my subscription still hasn't been cancelled.0 -
After reading this thread i rang Sky and found out that i have been out of contract since 2011
bad MSE'ring
I have Entertainments packge, Sports and Movies, SKY + HD box and Sky+ box.
I just told them i wished to leave to look at other options. They said if i got my phone line with them it would be 12 momths free rental, and offered to reduce some of my packages if i wished to save money but besides that where not too fussed if i left.
My package at the moment is £64.75 and if i don't do a deal i am fine without SKY, so lets see if they contact me, i play poker so lets see who blinks first

I was offered £5 for this total mess. Un-bloody-acceptable.0 -

We cancelled today after much difficulty (very difficult to get an advisor who will actually allow you to cancel without waffling on for seemingly hours) so we'll see if we are offered anything for our loyalty. Only taking SD Sports probably will mean that we get offered little- even after 17 years with Sky.0 -
After putting a cancellation request in a week to two ago I got a callback from Sky's retention team, their offer was 50% off Sky World, multiroom and HD for 12 months with no contract, I pushed for free HD or multiroom but they wouldn't budge, so I accepted their offer.
Not 5 minutes after accepting their offer they sent me an email saying I could have a free 2TB HD box as well, I'm pretty happy overall0 -
I've just had a very unproductive call with Sky. I've been a customer for over 8 years and I called to discuss a potential cancellation. Sadly , the advisor could offer nothing at all.
Not even the threat of moving to another provider could make him budge. Very disappointed and now I will move onto another provider.0 -

I phoned up 3 times in the last 3 weeks to say I was considering leaving and to confirm prices with and without various options. I didn't give my 30 days notice, but I was prepared to yesterday to try and call their bluff
I now have a new 12 month contract:
- TV M+ (chose to downgrade from L)
- Phone XL
- BB 30mb (downgrade from 60)
- cancelled sky sports for the time being, will add back on as needed
- TiVo box (was on the regular V+ box) with free install
- chose to pay £120 for 12 months line rental in advance
Total cost: £22 / mo (well, 32 if you factor in the line rental), fixed for 2 years (or I can try to renegotiate down next year)
Equivalent from BT was about £35 + hassle of new line/ new number/ activation charge/ etc etc so I'm happy with that. Service from Virgin is good; no problems with internet/tv and the phone support is actually ok
that is a great deal, well done.
wonder if i should phone back up, try and get a better deal and pay the line rental in advance?0 -
general query re virgin - is the advice to go through with the cancellation despite the deals they offer, then wait for a call a few days later to get the absolute best deal?
i guess if there is no call then you can change your mind within the 30 days and re-negotiate??0 -
oops!! double post, sorry folks...0
