I have Sky + the Sports and currently have 2 offers on my account. First one is 20% off which doesn't expire until Sept (I thought it was June) and the other one was HD for £2.50 instead of £10 which runs out 24th June.

Martins email has reminded me that I should cancel the Sports package. AFAIK I have to give 31 days so I may as well just do that shortly which will save me quite a few quid.

First of all, I will want to go back to the Sports in August - does that tie me in for another 12 months or just a month (in theory). I will also still be able to get my 20% off for Aug/Sept as well.

Secondly (and this may help someone else), my HD offer AFAIK will revert to £10 from 24th June (only really watch the Sports in HD so no biggie) but IIRC they have a third entertainment package now (Entertainment + Extra) which includes HD for only £5 a month more (£31.50 vs £26.50 for Entertainment +).

    Cheers

Yes, you can get Entertainment Extra+, which includes HD for only £5pm more than Entertainment Extra. However, you need to full HD Pack to get Sports and/or Movies in HD so that package has a limited scope.

Rang up last night, sky been off around 2 months without any ccommunication. Have bbeen on 1/2 price fora ccouple of years.
Got offered 6 months sky world inc HD for £5.75 per month, then next 6 months at full price but can downgrade at 6 months. Tied in for 12 months.
When i knock movies and HD off at 6 months it works out around 1/2 price for a year.
Didn't really want tie in, but pretty happy.

Sky contract has ended, I'm currently paying £39 for entertainment extra, multi room and HD, I said I'd like to leave and they offered me.......nothing. So I've put my 31 days notice in, I'm going to try them again in a few weeks

I joined Sky in June last year - basic tv package, unlimited bb and free line rental for 12 months.

I rang them last week to check when I could give notice to cancel and I was told Monday 13th May.

I called on Monday to cancel my subscription in full. When asked why, I explained the line rental charge kicking in just makes it too costly. She hummed and ha'd for a while and then said she'd organise cancellation.

She asked if I had a new provider sorted. I said no so she then advised me that if she cancelled the bb/phone line that day I could be cut off very quickly and that the best way was to get my new provider to take over the line so I wouldn't be left with no phone/bb service.

I questioned why they'd cut me off before my 12 month contract is up but she insisted it could happen and it was better for me to do it this way so she'd cancel the tv package only.

Is this standard advice? I get the feeling she was trying to fob me off/call my bluff but I will happily go to another provider if I can't get free line rental for another 12 months.

I also asked if I'd get confirmation in writing of the tv cancellation, she said I would. Does anyone know if the letter comes through fairly quickly?

    Hi baled,

If you are intending to switch your phone and broadband to another provider, then the process is normally handled by the winning provider:

    See http://help.sky.com/broadband/switching-your-broadband/get-a-mac-code-to-switch-from-sky-broadband

You should receive a letter within a few days regarding tv cancellation.
You may wish to check for yourself, however, that the cancellation has been processed. You can do this by logging in to "bills & payments" at
https://myaccount.sky.com/bill .Changes (including cancellation) that have not yet been billed appear at the top as "Product Change" ...... Date (taking account of notice period) ...... "Removed [name of package]" or similar.

If your new provider is handling the switch of line rental and broadband for you, Sky should be informed during the process. However, the communication can break down, so it's best to check your billing shortly after the switch to ensure that Sky stop charging you.

You should arrange for the date of the switch to be after the minimum term has expired, to avoid being charged for early termination.

    Hi,
After a bit of advice. I currently pay £52 (inc line rent) a mth for the following with sky:
    Phone
    Unlimited b/band
Sky tv package inc.... Sports, childrens, and a couple entertainment packages which are £1a mth each.

I negotiated this price last year, and idea if i can negotiate a better price? Or does this price seem reasonable? Or, does anyone think i would be better off elsewhere?
Thinking of asking for some 1/2price offers or free line rental as never had 1/2price or anything before.
Love watching sky sports so that stays lol. Would love multiroom or HD but i dont want the cost to go up.
    Thanks.

I telephoned Sky to cancel the football, and was offered a deal until August, the sky operator told me to keep looking for these offers, I pay only £5 per month for sky sports I could have received the movie chanel for £8 pm...So I have taken the offer of Sky Sports and my amount is much less.

Yeah they do that every year. £5pm for Sky Sports when the football season finishes is offered to everyone who calls to cancel, as far as I know.
  • I'm paying £80 for Sky TV, broadband and phone line-rental. My initial contract ran out nearly a year ago.

Thought this was too much so I called up to haggle.

They offered me half-price broadband (£3.75/mo instead of £7.50) plus a reduction on my TV package due to the end of the Premiership season, bringing my monthly TV cost down from around £55 to £38.50.

This would've meant a reduction to £57.25 (vs current £80). However, the half-price broadband deal meant signing up to a NEW 12-mo broadband deal. When I argued I didn't want a new deal, they refused to just give me the half-price reduction sans new contract.

In the end I just settled for the Sky Sports reduction so I'll be paying £61 for the next three months. I aim to call up again in the autumn for another reduction as I can't go back to paying £80/mo.

Seems like EVERYONE should benefit from at least that Sky Sports reduction -- possibly more if you play hardball (which I didn't really).
