    Any thoughts?

I think you need to actually follow through with the threat to cancel and then you will be offered a significantly better deal to stay.

I tried negotiating a new deal with SKY and the best they were prepared to offer was a 20% discount for 9 months. I mentioned the forums were full of posts from people who had a 50% or better discount and was assured that those deal simply do not exist!

Therefore on Tuesday of last week I called SKY to give notice to cancel the contract.

Last Thursday SKY called me to discuss the reasons I was leaving and to see if they could "help in any way". Opening offer was a 50% discount for 12 months or a free 2tb box and a 25% discount.

Therefore my advice is to cancel and you will then receive some far better retention offers.

Quick bit of advice if you don't mind?

    Currently paying Virgin for:
    Talk unlimited
    TV L (135 channels)
    Broadband XL (60mb)
    Sky sports 1+2
(Regular Virgin tv box, not Tivo)
    Total cost: £86.99

Just did a quick order on the Sky website:
    Sky entertainment
    Sports pack
    Broadband unlimited
    Talk anytime
    (+free £100 M%S voucher)
Total cost £62 for 6 months, then £69.50 for 6 months

My contract ended 2 months ago - been putting off re-negotiating because it's such an !!!!. Between BT/Talktalk/Virgin/Sky, the packages and discounts are so confusing... and I'm normally good with this sort of thing. I don't really want to switch from Virgin if I don't have to.

So I wanted to ask - what specifically should I ask for (I don't want to downgrade anything there, although I was previously happy with the 30mb broadband until they upgraded it for 'free')

If I ask for a regular Tivo box, and ask for a further *12 month* contract (NOT 18), what price range should I be aiming for???

If you don't want to downgrade, then you'll have to pay Sky extra to get comparable broadband. Also I notice no mention of the HD pack.

Just give 30 days notice to leave SKY.
Currently paying £53.50 for unlimited talk, unlimited BB and premier TV
1st lady was nice and got her down to 35.00.
Rang um back to give notice as we think we will just go free view
The guy I got was a jerk I wouldn't have stayed through him no matter what he offered.
Said I couldn't cancel BB and land line WITHOUT telling them who my new provider will be!
Was really arrogant, so I told him we'll just use or mobiles for
Internet and calls, only after 10 minutes of him"trying" to help me did he say I could cancel!
Just hope they ring with a better offer as free view ain't realy appealing
In any case he said I can't take them up on the 35 offer once in cancellation period!

Do you guys think they will call
    If so what's the timeframe,

    Many thanks

We cancelled our sky package and were cut off on 12th April (entertainment & sky sports). We'd just had a 12 month half price deal and I was told we wouldn't be able to have another offer like that.
Got a call about 2 weeks into the notice period offering 25% off which I declined and yesterday got a letter again offering only 25%.
I decided to call and was able to negotiate the 50% off deal very quickly and easily. Result!!

Now had 2 x 25% off offers for 12 months. One in March & now one again in May after cancelling Sky in Feb. Still holding out for 50% off but not sure I will get that offer? Nothing urgent as would be keen to get the whole of next footie season in.

Well at the moment its about a third discount, so not too bad.

What I dont want to happen is to cancel, then they dont give me a better offer, then not be able to get the 30% discount they originally offered :p

    Hi everyone

I'm getting a little frustrated with looking for tv and broadband deals and thought I'd ask some advice.

I'm a new customer looking for broadband and preferably sky, but I really don't fancy paying full price. I've seen deals on here that are now expired for 50% off and wondered if anyone else has got these as a new customer?

Very tempted by BT infinity for my broadband though as I can get it in my area and would quite like bt sports.

If anyone has any thoughts I'd really appreciate it.

    Cheers

P.S - I would be looking for the full package from sky, sports movies hd etc.

Well I've been following this thread a while, last year I got 25% off for 6 months but this year I wanted more! Just thought I'd let you know how I got on. Last Wednesday I rang up to discuss a discount on my current package. I had entertainment extra, films, sports, unlimited broadband and eve/wkend calls. Initially told he could do me £5 off line rental, I pointed out I could save that by paying line renal upfront! He went to 'speak to his manager' and said best offer was free line renal. I declined and cancelled the tv part of my package.

Then on Saturday afternoon I received a call from sky asking what they could have done better to keep me as a customer. I said I was happy with the service and it was purely a matter of cost. Almost straight away he said i could have 50% off for 12 months no contract. I said I would be interested but was concerned my current box (old sky+ box) would not last the year. He said for £2.50 a month extra I could add HD (entertainment extra+) and get free standard HD box, though this would tie me in to a new contract. I happily accepted his offer and asked to pay my line rental upfront too. I decided seen as I was tied in for 12 months I may as well save another £4.55 a month.

So I have ended up adding HD, getting a free HD box and saving £345 a year. Definitely worth the hassle of cancelling and an hour of my time on the phone. I didn't even have to push to get this deal so I'm fairly sure if I had asked for the 2tb HD box for £49 I probably would have got it.
  • I'm all sorted now too. I spoke to someone else this afternoon and have agreed to a deal of £6.50 off my TV (standard ent extra), £4.50 off line rental and free broadband unlimited for a year. It takes me down to £30 pcm which I'm really happy with.

It's not worth thinking about anymore or looking for other deals and saves me the hassle of actually switching should it have come to that.

    It's called a Youview Buster I believe.
