If you don't cancel they don't take you seriously. You can always call up on day 30 and say you have changed your mind.

Would you give money off to someone who wasnt 'serious'...

    I reckon you are right.

I have just bought a new HD TV with free sat so I think I am going to cancel and see what they offer over the summer.

The deep offers people are used to receiving from the threat of cancelling Sky are becoming obsolete, there are very few staff left with these deep offers.

If you are wanting to save money look at what you are paying for line rental and broadband with another provider, and then compare it to Sky. There is an offer every customer who doesn't have line rental and broadband can get, which is 6 month free broadband if you're in the SVBN (Sky voice and broadband network) area, some can even get 12 month free if it is showing as applicable on their account.

To save a bit more money, pay the line rental in advance at a cost of £119.40.

Well, I bit the bullet today (after I tried last week by email and no-one answered me). Gave my 31 days notice after coming off Sky World for £22.50 offer. The lady offered me £9 off full price but I turned it down. Now for the wait!

Just thought I would update people to give all some hope. I rang sky the day my subscription was supposed to end to ask if it was going through. I then got the question "Why are you leaving?", I said the usual 'Too expensive'. She then went away to see if she could get me a deal, she came back with Half Price Sky Sports, saving me £9. I said no to this, she went away again saying, 'Let check your mail drops'. Came back 10 minutes later with an offer of 75% off All sky products if I took out 'Sky World' or whatever everything is. So I am now paying £24 for SKY HD, Sports, Movies and all packs, (ESPN is currently available as well, dont know if this will go away).

Good Luck to anyone else trying to get a deal.

Are you tied in beyond your deal?

No contract. But offer runs out after 12 months

I just called to give 31 days notice and the best they were prepared to offer was a 20% discount for 9 months, no mention of any better deals and I was assured that any deals offering a 50% or better discount simply do not exist!

My cut off date is 7 June and I'll be giving them a call a day or so before to "check the cut off date".

Just sharing my experiences yesterday with going down the
    re-negotiation route with Sky.

In comparison to what Virgin are offering on a like for like basis what sky have offered remains slightly more expensive at £42 overall for the first 12 months but over the 18 month contract that Virgin are offering this evens out meaning Sky are cheaper by £84.

Sky will also do a 12 month contract so although I would be £42 down I can then at least re-negotiate to get that back.

Whilst this means that my monthly cost has increased with Sky by the huge sum of 50p they are able to deliver the following upgrades, all of which incur no extra charge or installation costs.

Current Sky + upgraded to Sky + HD (with associated channels)
Current standard Sky box on multi room upgraded to Sky +
Unlimited Standard Broadband (2.5GB) upgraded to Fibre Optic Broadband (40GB)

Aside from trying to identify individual providers and biting the bullet with regards to the inflated phone line rental etc etc my current train of thought is to tell Sky to poke it and go down the cancellation route and wait for a better deal £ wise whilst clinging onto the possibility that if they won't budge I will hopefully get the deal I have already got.

    Stick or Gamble ???

I doubt you'll get a better deal unless you actually cancel Sky completely and wait for them to offer you a deal to return.

Sounds like a decent deal. Remember you can save ~£5pm by paying line rental for a year up-front. A no-brainer if you're in a 12 month contract anyway.

A no-brainer if you can afford to pay upfront for a year!
