    A no-brainer if you can afford to pay upfront for a year!
    Not being funny but I think anyone that doesn't have £120 should reconsider having a luxury like Sky TV in the first place.

    Why? Not everyone has £120 just lying around, but can certainly budget for a monthly subscription to Sky TV.

    I disagree but maybe others would be more comfortable being that close to negative net income than me.

    You might just as well say everyone should buy their television set outright rather than pay on terms. Should they forgo the TV if they can't afford to pay upfront? TV is hardly an essential after all:D

    Phoned Virgin Media today. Was paying £58.49 for:
    XL TV with V+HD box
    XL Phone
    10MB BB

    After about 30 mins came away with an offer of:
    New TIVO box
    V+HD box in another room
    XL TV
    L Phone
    30 MB BB
    All for £56.59 a month with £5 installation charge.
    Happy with that.

    Despite my best efforts I have been unable to persuade SKY to offer me anything like the spectacular discounts quoted elsewhere.

    I have been with Sky since around 1994, on the full SKY World package, currently paying £55 per month and still on the old white SKY+ box.

    I called today to say I was interested in an HD package and having seen lots of other SKY customers quoting substantial discounts they had received what sort of deal could we do.

    The best they are are prepared to offer is a 2tb SKY+ box for £49 (as quoted on their website) and a monthly fee of £54.30 to include HD.

    I mentioned that friends have recently taken advantage of the MSE 50% discount codes and others have renewed for 12 months with substantial discounts and he was not prepared to budge.

    I feel like cancelling and switching to another service out of principle!

    Just to update this thread I cancelled SKY on Tuesday and received a call from customer services today (Thursday) to see if they could make me an offer to persuade me to stay with SKY.

    The two options offered were:
    1. Free 2tb box and a 25% discount for 12 months
    2. Keep existing box and a 50% discount for 12months

    Our old box is not HD and we need a replacement that is compatible with our new HD TV.

    I'd be happy with a new HD box and a 50% (or better) discount.

    Any views as to what the best deal available may be??

    You can get a new HD box for as little as £49 if you subscribe to HD.

    Yeah but that's only the 320 GB model. If you think you need the space, a free 2 TB box with 25% off sounds like a good deal, especially considering you don't even have an HD box right now. If not, ask for a standard HD box with the 50% off offer.

    I think m5hit needs to decide if he wants to subscribe to HD or not. If he doesn't, then a basic Sky+HD should be more than enough for his recording needs. I doubt Sky will offer a free box in addition to the 50% off discount.
  • m5hit - I would try to strike a deal with them here.

    You could;

    take the 50% off for 12 months then afterwards, ask for the HD pack to be added to your account and get the 2tb box for £49 or you could say to them thats what you'd like to do and could they do a deal with that?

    Either way, £5.25pm for the HD pack and £49 for a new box is pretty good so worst case based on your figures;

    £32.75pm + £49 one off fee. Sounds like a bargain for the full sky world pack to me!
