Why not use Freesat? You already have a dish.

Agreed - don't you already get more channels than on freesat by using your existing sky box and expired sky viewing card anyway?

Now in a slight panic as to what to use as I looked into talk talk and freeview but this would mean buying an outside aerial ...
When your Sky subscription actually ends I think you may be pleasantly surprised by how many TV channels you'll still be able to view using your existing Sky equipment. You'll still get all the BBC, ITV, CH4 and CH5 family of channels, together with a host of others which you probably thought you were paying Sky for.

You really don't have to buy a thing in order to continue viewing TV. No need to panic, find another supplier or even spend anything.

Freesat would require a different decoder, the OP can simply watch Freesat-From-Sky with her expired Sky viewing card in the existing Sky digibox.

Minimal channel differences, the advantage with Freesat is that a PVR can be employed without subscription. With an old Sky+, the recording features are disabled on cancellation.

Freesat From Sky wouldn't have recording capability though, unless you pay £10.25 per month. It would be cheaper in the short term though, especially if you're holding out for a Sky offer.
  • I changed my bt broadband to talk talk and have kept my @btinternet.com email

Do BT charge you to keep your e-mail address?

Does nobody else think the £10.25 extra pm required for HD is a rip off? Fair enough I can notice the difference, especially on sports, but I refuse to pay it. I know it`s futile but I don`t care. Is the days of free HD far off?

Sky is expensive enough without paying extra for HD.

P.S I`m paying £43.50 for full package (no HD), which I know is a descent rate

My existing offer of half price for 1 year on the TV part (entertainment extra, no sports, no movies, second year of having the half price offer applied) is expiring in one month so I called them up to say I wanted to remove it as its rarely used (which is true as we have a freesat TV to fall back on).

No problem at all sir, let me just put it on for another 12 months (entertainment extra +) for you...

I personally don't see it as a rip off but like with most things it's about personal preferances and opinions

I am a bit of a HD snob now, always watch the HD channels if possible

It would be good if the additional cost for HD was scrapped because I think HD should become the standard

My experience exactly. I do think Sky will continue to charge a premium for this for quite some time yet.

(Until the next money spinning improvement in viewing technology comes along;))
