Hi, I've been with sky for just over a year. I followed everyones success stories in this forum.
I cancelled sky in December, the retentions team offered me 10% off, I didnt say to them but I didn't think that was fair when others were getting 50% deals, so I cancelled and I've been waiting for a call back as others have had.
I haven't been called back and I have now been cut off!!
Is it because I cancelled just my TV package and not the tel line / Broadband with Sky?
Do you think I will still get an offer even though I have been cut off? Or should I call them?
thanks0 -
Just thought I would share my experience. First phoned up just after christamas and explained that I could not afford the 53.50 a month I was paying for the full sky sports pack with HD. Was offered a 5 pound reduction but said that was no good . They then offered a me a deal on phone and broadband if I moved to them which equated to free broadband for a year ( the basic capped package ). I said I would think about it.
Cue last night when I called again - asked to cancel and explained that I was looking to cut back and sky was a luxury not a necessity. Got the spiel about broadband again but told them I had already signed up with a new provider. Also explained that I only wanted sky for the footy in HD so downgrading was not a option....so to cut a long story short ended up with a offer to discount the package to 37.50 a month with no changes
The discount is for 6 months and should I still want to leave its just a months notice - so I am now paying 16 pound a month less0 -

My thoughts are that it probably didn't make any difference that you have the BB and phone, just that deals are a little harder to come by at the moment.
If you're willing to wait you will surely get an offer in due course, but you may be waiting a few weeks.0 -
Had a result.
Originally rang just before Christmas and said I couldn't afford sky, too much money, etc. Had the 'sorry you're leaving' letter and the email survey. No phone call due to be disconnected this weekend. Called tonight. CS seemed to put me through to Retentions after I said that the letter told me to 'call if there was anything they could do to keep me' so I did....
Was offered half price HD but told they would have to cancel my cancel (sorry) to see better offers. Lo and behold I was offered 50% off my current package for 6 months plus the half price HD. Happy with that. Not gonna get greedy. As its more than what some have got.
Thanks for all the help to those on this forum. Hopefully I can offer advice to others..Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk

I cancelled my sky 1 jan so cut off in 6 days. For what its worth i have not received a single offer to stay at any time. I have had 3 conversations over the phone and have been told that they simply can not offer me any kind of deal at this time.
That goes against the grain of some peoples experience on here.
I had sky bb unlimited ,phone ,and entertainment extra cost £48.50 month.
Due to the complete lack of interest from sky i yesterday took the plunge and signed up for virgin through quidco. Here are the figures.
30 mb bb + super hub
essential tv + tivo box
phone
£50 credit on my bill
£161.50 cashback (this has already tracked)
Total cost over 18 month contract
£31 6 months = £186
£36 12 months =£432 (paying line rental upfront £120)
Total =£618
Minus = £161.50 cashback
= £50 credit
Total cost = £406.50 divided by 18 = £22.58 a month.
I am confident that sky would not get anywhere near that. The only thing i have lost is sky atlantic that i sometimes watch. I rang sky before taking this offer and they still made absolutely no attempt to keep me. They have lost my custom.0 -
Been without Sky for about 3 weeks now, have not heard anything from them since I made the call to cancel back at the start of December. So to some on here don't hold your breath for a quick reply.
To be honest though I'm not really missing it as much as I thought even though I'm a big sports fan.
In the meantime we have been using the kids Xbox to get on demand content (bbc iplayer, 5OnDemand, 4OD) and have just given LoveFilm a go (free for a month and £4.99 a month after, though you can cancel at any time). This is mainly to supplement some stuff that the kids have lost. So in all honesty not really missing it all that much.0 -

As a footnote to the above,if the virgin bb etc is not as good as sky there is a 28 day cancellation option with no charge so really i had nothing to lose.0 -

I do intend to do the same trick with my phone and BB shortly though!A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A
If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.0 -
Sky are really stingy, I went to them when I was haggling with VM & the best they could offer me for similar just TV no BB or Phone was £48. I got VM down to £55 a month with superfast 30mb broadband and unlimited phone included with multiroom on a XL tv package!0

Found the answer.
My girlfriend gave our notice today via the customer retentions number. She was told I could call back to discuss our options and having done so all they could do was to offer to charge MORE for upgraded broadband (which we dont need) and upgraded TV to the Large package (we have the medium package plus movies, sports and HD) . We will therefore wait for the call but not entirely confident seeing as we were speaking to retentions in the first place.0
