Well, after all the talk about Sky supposedly not doing offers anymore etc etc blah blah blah, I put my cancellation in three weeks ago, was due to be cut off next Sunday.... low and behold tonight I get a call off them..... surprise, surprise they offer me 12 months half price for the full TV package again. That's now three years in a row that I've been on the half price package.

Proof once again that if you want a deal, you have got to play hardball with them and put your cancellation notice in... no "I'm thinking about canceling..." actually do it......

Oh and to note, they called me on my landline at about 8.30 on a Friday night. Nearly didn't answer...
A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.
  • I cancel Sky on a yearly basis - have probably done so for upwards of 5 years and everytime they come back before the 'switch off' date and offer between 25 and 50% off - this time I've gone past the 30 days and now have no service (except the basic freeview functions). Must admit I'm not too bothered and just have to decide how long I wait for them to send a 'please come back' letter or whether to switch to another service (I'm with talktalk for broadband and like the look of the youview box). On the upside I'm now saving £25 pm. I will keep you informed if Sky return but feel that after a total of 20 years Sky service (full price for the first 15 years) perhaps the offers are finally being restricted.

You are abosutely correct...I was cancelling my Sky, TV, phone and b/band a couple of weeks ago. Please note that I never said to the Sky operator that I was looking for deals or offers, etc. Suddenly he found me a deal of £25 (including line rental) to stay with Sky for the next 3 nonths. I grabbed the offer but will be cancelling again in March unless SKY offer me a similar deal.

I have just got my Smart TV delivered and working. Fantastic picture on BBC HD, which it can automatically receive. Now back to watching the snooker.

    HTHs.

Just called Sky as i have an old white Sky+ box which is starting to have issues when i rewind recorded programmes. Helpful guy has arranged a HD box for free with a £15 courier charge for delivery. Asked about HD subscription options and, with no pressure, was offered 12 months for £5 per month with first three months free to cover courier cost. Asked about ESPN as big football fan. 3 months half price which is £5 per month.
  • Hello, thought I'd chance my arm today (after being out of contract for a couple of days and only being offered 25% off the other night when I phoned)

I phoned today claiming I had the same email as this poster
My sky cancellation is due on the 10th of this month after I cancelled as they only offered me 25% for 6 months of normal package. I said I was moving to virgin.

Have just received an e-mail today offering new free sky+HD 2tb box and half price t.v and HD for 6months. Happy days :j

I had no intention to cancel, just wanted an offer I can't be without my sky! Especially sky 1 now on Sunday eve! :)

So I just said I got an email last week offering 6 months Sky TV and HD

the customer services woman transferred me to some lady in Newcastle area (by the accent)

She asked me what channels I wanted and I told her all of them, so I now have the full TV package for £32 ish a month

I asked about new box and was offered the 2TB box for £49.

however, If you take the box, your tied for 12 months, if you dont, no tie in

so I turned down the box and will try again for a 12 month deal with a new box in 6 months :):money::beer:

I am in a similar position, with deals for the last few years (every year for perhaps 10 years?) but nothing this time. Must admit Im missing the football but aren't willing to pay the full price for the sports channels.

I too am with a different BB provider (Utility Warehouse) and I have always felt that this gave me more bargaining power on the deals which have been at a good discount over the years.

Perhaps they will be in touch in due course, but perhaps I should look at the alternatives again.

Yup, this is exactly why I'm reluctant to lump everything together - deal I have with TalkTalk is 12mb broadband and phone (including calls) for about £17 per month (I pay line rental 1 year ahead) which I'm happy with, but now see that they do fibre BB for an extra £10 so might switch to that and add on the youview box - still undecided and happy to give Sky just a little more time.

Just rang up and got the 25% off for 6 months offer. I genuinely am in a financial tight spot, having been made redundant in November and can't really justify adding to debt to watch football, which is what I told the man but on the other hand I'd rather have it than not.

Is my next move to cancel? Half price for 12 months I could definitely live with. A tenner off a month for six months doesn't really help my austerity measures strategy. I said I'd think about it and call back.
