After reading the many postings here, I believe that the only message you can take is: you must use the cancellation route. Please don't take umbrage at the offer made by the Sky adviser & get involved in an argument. I'm sure they're giving you the best offer they, possibly, can. Just thank the representative for the offer & go through with the cancellation. After, all they don't make the rules & are purely following their instructions.
To demonstrate this, I cancelled the TV part of my subscription(keeping phone & broadband) on 13 December. This Thursday I received a telephone call, from a nice representative, offering all channels at a discounted rate of 50% for 12 months - that's just £26 per month & no contract. This, I thought, was too good to turn down & I have accepted.
So, to sum up, the waiting game is the way forward. Even if you do not receive an offer, what's the worst that can happen: your Sky subscription lapses. I don't think this the end of the world(or was that yesterday!)
Just as a follow on I decided to upgrade my old white Sky+ box to a 2Tb box, which is good value at £49. However, you also had to take out a year's Sky HD subscription at £10.25 pm. I chanced my arm & asked if there were any offers available - not thinking I'd receive one - see above re offer already received. Well, to my great surprise, I was offered HD for £5 per month for 12 months.
So, it would seem, that the offer stacking practice has not become extinct.:T0 -
I am a little confused as to how prices of things differ so much from person to person. I left sky due to financial problems and 2 or 3 months later returned. I wasnt classed as a new customer, but a returning customer.
My issue is.. my package now costs much more than it ever did and they say there is no way to reduce this. I do not understand how leaving them for 2 months has changed this. Really unhappy with the price I am now paying.0 -
Been with Sky for over 15 years paying 75 a month at the moment for sports multi room and espn . Rang BT last week as i have my broadband with them, and switching to BT vision will save me over 60 a month and I still get sky sports 1 and 2. Ok so no multi room but we get the channels we want most ...... Sports. Rang sky and they didn't offer anything as said they couldn't match that offer from BT...... Maybe they will ring but as BT are coming in a weeks time to install will be abit late if they leave callin us until a week before our cancellation date of 13 th Feb... But at the end of the day I was paying BT 40 a month and sky 75 so a saving of nearly 60 a month can't be bad and after a year I can always go back if I want to when my BT contract ends.0

Because you would have been on an old package before and are now on a new one.
Pretty standard across all providers.0 -

You say that, but Sky have recently been creating issues for people on BT by moving mainstream premier league games to SS 3 etc.
Admittedly with BT sports having the rights next season you will be in a good place with BT, just make sure you can get infinity otherwise you will find yourself struggling next year.0 -
I just called Sky to cancel and they reduced my bill from £58pcm (tv, broadband and phoneline) to £35pcm and are sending a free wifi adapter for our skybox so that we can access iplayer etc. Hurrah.0

@skyuserScy - your calculation is wrong, Hd, Espn and Multiroom dont count as part of your Tv its part of the package you have. In my last post i pointed out that the tv was discounted:-
its 50% of the 55.50 tv pack then add on the cost of additionals, Hd, Mr ,Espn etc = 27.75 +10+10.25+10.25
My calculation isn't wrong. I know how Sky have come to the price - I am disputing their description of it as being "1/2 price". If it was genuinely half price, my bill would be 1/2 of what it was before - a pedantic point maybe, but they can't change the English language!!
I didn't contact them 3 times for a discount:The day before my service was due to finish I contacted them a 3rd time. I had received an e-mail with a survey, but the link did not work. I wanted to complete the survey to make make my feelings known. I was sent a link via online chat and completed my details. Immediately I received an e-mail thanking me for showing an interest in coming back to Sky, and someone would be in touch soon. I explained that this was incorrect to the adviser, who denied this and abruptly finished the chat.
I wanted to complete their customer survey, and that's the reason I contacted them (still haven't completed a customer survey, but I guess they know how I feel anyway).
Just one more thing (a la Columbo)Yes being a long standing customer will get you a decent offer but it is agent specific
What does agent specific mean? Only 'senior' agents can authorise certain offers?0 -
Currently have Virgin Media with 1 x V+ box, and two additional boxes, and then the full XL package along with Sky Sports, phone and broadband. I am currently paying £106 per month and am going to cancel the XL and go back down to either M or L. Anyone know how much this will cost me in total?0

I phoned yesterday to see if my £62.50 per month could be reduced but was told it couldn't unless I took away elements of it. No offer. My bargaining is limited as I live 'in the country' with no alternative provider. Because of this i hesitated to say I wanted to cancel, but should I go back and ask about cancellation anyway? Can I just phone up and ask for the cancellation department?0
