After 20+ years of being a SKY customer paying £70+ a month just for tv i gave 31 days notice on 17/12/12 after being offered nothing as an incentive to stay. Today i got a very expensive looking glossy letter that says
"We've tried to make you laugh and put you on the edge of your seat, But most of all, we've loved putting on a show for you.So we were sad to hear that you were leaving us.
We'll call you in the next week or two to see if there's anything more we can do for you.If you'd like to chat to one of our dedicated advisors in the meantime, just call "
Also had an email with a survey about why i cancelled.
Anyone else had this letter/email? What should i expect when they call?
Im not going to call them. Will wait for the call and see whats on offer. not too bothered either way but if it's cheap enough i may consider it.
Had the 'sorry you're leaving' letter.. also had the customer survey email and filled that in. Cancellation is due in 2 weeks. Will keep the forum posted!Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk

Hi, I know I'm a bit late but, do you know if the 50% off sky code offer, for new customer, includes broadband and phone with the entertainment package, or do you have to get that at half price separately?0 -
I phoned up Sky on Saturday and told them that I have been offered a deal from BT where I get a new box (YouView), BT Infinity, Phone and BT Vision for £48.50 a month.
I currently have the full whack with Sky, paying about £98 per month, so I told them I was looking to half that cost and possibly take the Sky Fibre broadband package. They basically just told me how much my cost would come down if I removed sports etc.
I then gave my notice of cancellation.
Waiting on a call from them, but I'll happily manage without for the time being.
I am hoping to get half price TV for 12 months, Sky Fibre for the full price and a new 2TB box, which I will happily pay £50 for, as my current box has intermittent faults.
We'll see how I get on. I'll post any offers etc I get - or not as the case may be!0 -
Went for my hat-trick tonight with the mother in laws package.
Had previously cut my own bill from circa £83 to £50 a month and reduced my Mothers new install from £105 to £66 a month.
She is on her own so does not have a fancy package.
Tv Entertainment package currently £24.00 (Protected price !!) and Multiroom £10.25. Total £34.25.
Equipment 2 x basic (Tiny) Sky Boxes with single cable feeds.
I was not looking for too much so happy to cancel.
I still believe being pleasant does get you past first base and indeed I was still offered deals to stay. I must add at this point the operator had my own account open as I was calling from my own phone number and the postcode I dictated had not been recognised. Therefore she must have been able to view my "interesting history".
First offer equipment upgrade to have HD feed in both rooms meaning an engineer visit. Sky+ HD box in one of the rooms.
She tried to get free installation but could only manage minimum £5.
As this is peanuts it sounds genuine.
Anyway I pointed out my issue was cost as opposed to the very nice equipment I was being offered.
As I then explained just dropping Multi-room was not the answer due to equal time spent in each room (Elderly people like to go to bed early) she then came back with the good old Multiroom discounted to £2.50 for a year.
Good enough for mother in law and I am not greedy so I took the fresh bait.
Reduction from £34.25 to £26.50 a month.
New equipment and fresh installation enabling HD (If ever subscribed to) and anytime (If we ever persuade her to take Broadband ).
Be nice and good luck.0 -
Anyone recently requested cancellation from Virginmedia by giving them 30 days notice only to be offered a decent deal before the notice is up?
I know this is a common tactic but it seems the sentiment at the moment is that VM like Sky are starting to tighten up now.
2 Jan 2013 call from retentions; what would make me stay? "£37.50 pm for same package". Said he'd call back. Never did.
3 Jan 2013 further call from retentions (knew nothing of previous call) same conversation, resulted in offer of £37.50 to offset increase for 10 months plus further £50 lump sum. I asked that it be made a round £90 (hence £7.50 pm reduction). Eventually agreed having also offered 30mb BB and Superhub free. Suggested £120 up front line rental, saving another £5.00 pm.
Just received new contract at £45.40pm. No mention of Feb increase but no doubt still £3.74 as per old contract, so £49.14pm, less £12.50 comes to £36.64 pm!
He noted that I am now in year 18 with them, but I don't think that counts for anything these days. No doubt they will be announcing more increases this year and I am weary of this annual saga. I'm going to spend this year changing to generic email addresses away from Virgin (which is only a rebadged Google mail anyway) which will make pulling the plug a lot easier if required in a year's time.
Tip: if you get a deal offered and accept it, call CS a day or two later to confirm it appears on your file as you agreed. Many a slip twixt...0 -

Have just received an e-mail today offering new free sky+HD 2tb box and half price t.v and HD for 6months. Happy days :j
I had no intention to cancel, just wanted an offer I can't be without my sky! Especially sky 1 now on Sunday eve!
Any chance you could post a copy of this email - or pm me!
I was told I had to wait until my subscription actually ended, before they could offer me a deal like this, so interesting to see you got one prior to yours ending.
I'd like to get mine sorted before it goes offline next week and I lose all my planner!0 -

I got the email survey, and the funny thing is, by the survey question and answers, they know exactly why everyone is leaving, but yet they do nothing about it0 -
