  • Presumably that's a 12m contract.... so after the 6m 1/2 price, you'll be paying full price for the TV?

Hmm it doesn't actually say in the e-mail I've received but I guess it will be, I'm still happy though as I wasnt going to cancel when it came to it anyway the 2tb box is a bonus too, am always having to delete programmes on the box we have cause not enough room!

Guys here is a point to note -

Companies will give better deals or be reasonable in Q2 and Q4.
    NOT Q1 and Q3.

This is with most companies including mobile ones and tv ones and has been for awhile.

If i were you, either know what youre doing on the phones to get the best deal or remain patient.

Alot of companies are now jumping on the fibre andwagon and offering better tv so expect a bot more competiion in a few months (Q2)

Hi Just to say I called Sky asking to reduce my package due to financial climate etc. Then stated I wanted to remove TV package (I have full tv package with HB, Broadband and telephone) as couldnt afford it and barely watch it as im always upstairs in bedroom. I was offered 20% for 6 months. I refused this and said no i'd like to remove tv package so was put through to cancellations.

The lady I spoke to asked stated i had been a cusotmer for over 6 years and apart from costs was the service ok. I said yes but also Virgin are offering me free extra box and multiroom and no HD charge if i switch to them (this is true as im in a virgin email and get a letter every 2/3months with a deal to switch). The lady asks me what price Virgin are offereing and I mention loads of free for 12 months etc stuff but I havent confirmed as i need to check cancellation notice here etc. I am then asked if id be willing to stay if they match virgins offer.

To cut a long story short I'm offered another HD+ box for £29, 12 months free multiroom, 12months half price HD, 20% off tv package for 12 months, I also mentioned switching to plusnet fibre optic broadband, so am offered 12 months half price line rental (line was with BT although calls with sky) and 6months half price fibre optic broadband.

Well chuffed as saved almost £450 for the year as a result :T:beer:

I think you got the best deal ver anyone will get RE: phone line and FIBRE broadband.

Its very difficult to get them to discount the two together!

After 20+ years of being a SKY customer paying £70+ a month just for tv i gave 31 days notice on 17/12/12 after being offered nothing as an incentive to stay. Today i got a very expensive looking glossy letter that says

"We've tried to make you laugh and put you on the edge of your seat, But most of all, we've loved putting on a show for you.So we were sad to hear that you were leaving us.
We'll call you in the next week or two to see if there's anything more we can do for you.If you'd like to chat to one of our dedicated advisors in the meantime, just call "

Also had an email with a survey about why i cancelled.

Anyone else had this letter/email? What should i expect when they call?

Im not going to call them. Will wait for the call and see whats on offer. not too bothered either way but if it's cheap enough i may consider it.
  • Being a long term deal getter with Sky, I cancelled giving my 30 days notice at the start of December with the disconnection today - just coming out of the 4 months free 'offer'.

No deals on cancellation, and no call, email, letter since.

I have got to the disconnection stage before, but do usually get something through before it goes off.

A question I would like to ask is have any of you guys gone through this and contacted them to have a reconnection at the full price, or even negotiated a decent deal after disconnection?

My impression is that 'we' either do without it or move elsewhere under these circumstances.

I do expect to receive some sort of offer in due course - I'll just wait and see and listen to the grumblings from the family while we are waiting! :D

Q2 and Q4 of sky's financial year presumably..... but when is their financial year? If it's 1st April then we are in Q4 now do kind of disproves your theory.... ?

1 year ago when they called me at the last minute, they basically asked what would convince me to stay..... I said half price (what I was on previously) and that's what they gave me.... :)

Hold out mate, would be very surprised if you don't get a begging letter to come back within 2 months.....

Just rang sky as I currently pay £83 a month for tv(inc sports),line rental, phone, broadband.
Explained I wanted to cut costs and mentioned virgin offered £70 a month with HD(I lied) and the lady put me through to cancellations without any offer at all.

Cancellations offered 25% off sports for 3 months and I said virgin was still cheaper so she looked more....and then offered 25% off line rental as well.

Total saving: £18.75 for 3 months and £3.50 for the next 3 months.

I've been a customer for 9-10 years not and usually call them about discounts etc and they don't seem to offer as much as they used to.
Before I got 6 months half price but no longer.

like some of the previous threads, sky absolutely not interested in giving any discounts whatsoever..
have been with them since 2009 and have phone and broadband also. i am now paying £48.48 a month and i cant afford it, so called and asked for good deal to stay..nowt, nada, nothing offered. so cancelled phone and b/b and have signed up to Primus. kept sky tv as sadly freeview doesnt show the sky channels and i like some of the progs. so tv £16 pm and phone and b/b going to be 16.99 = £32.99 somewhat better

You have to actually leave to get all the good offers. We cancelled in August after 11 years of everything and they made no fuss or any offers until just before Xmas. We are currently back on for 4 months totally free. All Channels but no HD Package.

Even now we barely watch it, most of the stuff on the planner would also be on our Freesat HDR. So will be calling up in March to cancel because I really just don't miss it.
  • One of the problems with actually cancelling completely is you lose the record functionality which many people have got used to.

Yes, you can buy a PVR but if you do that (at a cost of at least £150) you won't want to be offered a deal a few months after you cancel as you've invested in a new box.
