On the usual sky number there is an option for leaving sky (or similar). If you give your 30 days notice you can always call up on day 29 and say you have changed your mind and the request will be removed.0

This is true but my Sky went off on the 5th of Jan as the deal they offered this time wasn't all that great.
Have had no contact from Sky since cancelling as yet.
Personally I wouldn't advise phoning up on day 29 because you are handing Sky all the trump cards because they will then know that you feel you can't live without Sky.0 -
Oddly, I do think there is something to be said for Sky's new approach. I've long been frustrated by reading about the great deals people have been offered because maybe they said the right things or got to speak to the right advisor. There's something to be said for transparent, fair pricing. Of course, I'm always up for getting a deal but do get annoyed with the need to ring up twice a year and go through my 'I can't afford it, I'm going to leave routine'. Having said that, I think Sky IS too expensive!0

News in from my dad this morning that I thought to share. This is relevant to those with Sky tv only.
He has a Sky plus box and is on the full entertainment package plus Sports and Espn, which comes to £57.25. He cancelled last week after being offered a free upgrade to a HD box with free install, etc, half price HD sub and 10% off his Sky channel package for the 12 month duration. The half price HD and 10% off sort off cancel each other out....so essentially it was an HD upgrade for free. Anyways he turned it down and went ahead with the cancellation and today was offered a slightly improved Sky channel package discount of 20% off for the first 9 months of the contract as well as the HD equipment upgrade and half price HD sub.....he agreed.
So he got a 'stacked' offer.......20% off his package for 9/12 months of the contract AND free HD equipment with half-price subscription.
Not bad, I reckon. Over the piece, he spoke to 3 different people in detentions, only one of whom insisted that only one offer can be added....the other two did it with some gentle persuasion.
Hope it helps someone. My dad has been a 12 year customer by the way and had never previously had a deal.''He who takes no offence at anyone either on account of their faults, or on account of his own suspicious thoughts, has knowledge of God and of things devine.''0 -

I like the thought of the naughty Sky Employees not getting paid for their overtime :rotfl:0 -

I rang BT to give notice and they offered me unlimited broadband for £13.65 mnth, I have 40g download at the mo for £18.
TV essentials is going up to £5 from £4 but not sure if we really need the recording facility as its only freeview really and thats on the tv.
Would now pay the phone upfront to save money. £129 for BT per year.
BUT Ive had an email several times from BT
£9 a month for 12 months, £18 thereafter3
+ line rental at £15.45 a monthUnlimited Broadband with Evening & Weekend Calls
£25 Sainsbury’s Gift Card - online exclusive!
Up to 16Mb Unlimited broadband (subject to fair usage)
Includes evening & weekend UK landline calls3
Visit www.bt.com
18 month contract - Offer only available to new BT Broadband customers
NEW CUSTOMERS only but when I asked why this was the case they said they didnt have a deal like that on their computers????
I will ring again later to try and get the above deal - I dont see why new customers should benefit , they should offer the same to customers to keep them surely.
Otherwise i may move the broadband and phone to Sky which is cheaper if you pay the phone upfront and the broadband is only £10 I believe AND go through cashback.
Any views on this?

if your dad got a call back from Sky this will have been from a different team that the retention group - they are the team of 'last' resort and may make some great offers to keep your business, however, retention advisors have only ONE offer per customer to use, so as said before, if you like your sky, don't get greedy and look for too much all at once as it won't happen.
Also it might be worthwhile tpo take the offer as this can save you money instantly and then think about your options - don't get caught up in the emotion of poor negotiation unless you have the competitor information to hand - doin't think that any good agent will not also know what is available.0 -
I HAVE HAD A RESULT
I rang BT just and said I was leaving if they didnt match Skys Broadband and theyve given me unlimited broadband for £10 a month. It is an 18 month contract but Im fine with that as my broadband is excellent anyway. That saves me at least £10 a month on BT charges (40gig download is now £20 a month and unlimited £26) so Im quite happy.
All I can say is that if you dont get what you want the first time say you'll think about it and ring back another day. You have to be prepared to leave though or accept a different offer than the one you want.

Any scope to re-negotiate this do u think with Virgin:
Bundle Charges
Talk Weekends
Fully Itemised Billing
T V Size: X L
2 Additional V Box
V+ HD Monthly Fee
TiVo Monthly Fee
Extra Set Top Box Discount
Broadband Size: L
Loyalty Customer
Bundle Charges total
£51.00
Promotional offer(s)
CR £11.00
Total excluding line rental £40.00
(You'Re Receiving A £11 Loyalty Discount. If You Change Your Package You May Lose This Discount Which Will End 01-DEC-13 )
One of the extra boxes they gave without charge is in cupboard, we don't watch hardly any of the tv channels but the kids will lose a couple of the ones if we downgraded. Any advice or am I getting such a good deal that there is no scope to change?
Thanks for the advice in advance.0
