Hi, having read the posts about discounts to existing customers, I decided to phone SKY to enquire about upgrading my full sky package to SKY HD. I was told that I would receive a new HD box free, normally £299 and it would cost me £65 installation fee and £10.25 extra p/m. No other deals were offered. I then phoned back about one hour later and said that having costed one years full Sky package and HD installation and subscription, I had decided that I would be better off purchasing a Humax 320GB digital recorder and cancelling my SKY subscription. The operator I spoke to then asked me if I had been offered any deals, I optimistically said no. He offered the HD box and installation free with HD half price for 6 months. I asked if there was anything else he could do. He said nothing other than reviewing my present package. I said I was not satisfied with that and that I would just cancel my subscription(thinking he would put me through to another department), but no, he put through my cancellation there and then and I am cut off in 31 days. Not too bothered as no doubt they will offer me something after I leave. Where did I go wrong?

    NEXT POST

Having just cancelled my Sky subscription, I am getting grief from my family for being pig-headed!!
What if I go back to Sky and told them I had changed my mind, would they offer me a deal?

    UPDATE

Have received a letter notifying me when my Sky subscription finishes (3rd March), then a customer survey on the performance of the agent and then another one asking where they went wrong.

So far no phone calls or letters to offer me a deal to stay.

Do you think I should phone them again and tell them I wish to re-consider and see what deals they will offer me? If so, when is the best time to call them and what number to use?

    UDATE 2

Phoned Sky and gave it the old 'someone from Sky phoned me while I was out' routine and said perhaps they were on to offer me a deal to stay. Guy I spoke to checked his system said no one had called me. I said as my deal was due to expire next week perhaps they were offering me a deal to stay? He never offered me anything and that was it. I am now feeling they don't want my business. Should I call back cap in hand and see what I can negotiate?

Do they only give these bigger discounts to people in VM areas?

Could be right. I live in an area where we don't have cable. Beginning to think Sky realise they are the only show in town!

Well that didn't go too well lol!!! Atm have 5 pack +sports and 1/2 price hd subsciption which is about to run out paying £43 pm. Been with them for 8 years.
Wanted multiroom, 2nd hd box and was prepared to switch to their broadband and phone if it facilitated a good deal. Also told him was either going to go with the humax hd boxes and leave sky or upgrade
    with them.
Got absolutely nothing from him!!! : £199 for 2nd hd box
    £10.25 for 2nd hd subscription!!
    £10.25 for multiroom
stopped him there before even got to broadband and phone and queried any discount for long term customer....no was the reply!!!
That signalled the red mist for me and told him just put me through to cancellations as i know for a fact there are deals available. Told me where did u read this the financial times??? lol Didn't say this site and told him none of his business (must be something in there about haggling)
Anyway final payment comes out 3rd march and they've just lost out on approx £70 a month .
Take it I will have a month from now before the switch off due to notice period??
My plans are wait for phonecall from retentions or if no decent offer wait until account cancelled then sign back up as a "new" customer after a week of no sky in my wife's name.
    Any thoughts please??

Do it, £85 quidco & £50 M&S voucher available currently too... Trying to convince the wife we can live without sky for a week or two to do the same...
  • just tried sky via their live chat as i was just looking to get a viewing card (new house has good dish and i can get a 2nd hand box no probs online). they don't do the cards on their own.

best deal i was offered was £47 per month for movies, sports and knowledge. she was willing to waive £49 sky+ box fee. give me £50 M+S voucher but still wanted £30 install fee!!!!

i only need a box plugged in and am not wanting to pay someone £30 for the privilige.

    she would budge.

    any idea's?

  • I was offered free Sky HD box and 6 months free subscriptions. Checked my bill which arrived today and I am being charged the £10.25 a month for the HD as 'it was put in the wrong box' I ended up on hold for half an hour but got it sorted in the end.

I opted back in to paper bills a few weeks ago, not realising they automatically take you off unless you request to stay on them, so make sure you check your bills. Mine is seriously high anyway as I have evrything including multi room and ESPN so probably wouldnt have noticed if I didnt have the bill :) x
  • Definitely time to start singing that old Temptations classic "aint too proud to beg" IE: I know you're gonna leave me but I refuse to let you go!" cos that's the reply you should get and if you don't then they aren't worth staying with as they obviously don't value you.

Virgin media bill for TV, phone & broadband 25/01/2011 services charges = £60.53

I tongue in cheek reminded them I could go to Sky or BT as a "new" customer and get a cracking deal, so 10 mins of freephone haggling later..........

Virgin media bill for TV, phone & broadband 22/02/2011 services charges = £37.17

    saving = £23.36 (happy days)

The £47 wasn't a deal, it's the price Sky charge if you check their website. You won't get a special price as a new customer.
Fog on The Tyne isn't mine all mine... but if I wanted it, I'd want it with a discount code.

Im on the phone to sky just now, got offered 25% off for a year which I declined. I did say I wanted HD but couldnt justify the costs. After a lot of chat where the lovely girl kept pushing the 25% offer, she put me on hold again and came back and offered 50% for 6 months. So I upgraded to HD, had to pay £15 installation which I haggled to get this cost removed, but she said she couldnt do anything about it. Ach well, I paid it.

Was paying £40 a month, now upgraded to HD and paying £25 ish for 6 months, cant complain about that

Can't think of anything smart to put here...
