Got a call today from Sky offering me 50% off for 12 months, wasn't due to be switched off until around Nov 21st, call came quicker than i expected.
  • I have been on friends and family 1/2 price offer. I warned the kids we would only keep it 12 month but I can't imagine loosing it. I am phoning this week to give notice. I hope I get a similar offer. I am tv only as my O2 deal was fab when I planed to leave them to take up sky.

I'm feeling confident thanks to your stories. Thanks guys.
  • I spoke to sky last night about a better deal, my sky for phone, broadband, entertainment pack, movies and hd was £49 with an offer I had at the beginning of the year, but has gone up to £69 this month.

At first a guy I spoke to offered me 20% off tv which would be £7 so I said I just can't afford it, so package would be £62.

Then I went through to cancelations and the guy offered me a discount of 11.50, and I said it was still too much as I can't afford to pay over £50 so he has also taken my hd off taking it down to £47.50

I'm a little nervous about having my hd taken off as that is pretty much all I watch although I know that the channels are still there in sd, should I just phone them and cancel it and see if they come back with a better offer?
  • I rang Sky last night, not happy at now paying £97 a month. We live in a non cable area, tried using Virgin as a bargaining tool anyway, but they checked up, so I said I'd cancel it. Offered me 12 months line for £3 a month and I ditched the sports channels. However, as we had movies and sports together, apparently you get movies half price (£8 a month), now, with sports gone movies goes up to £16 a month, meaning that my bill is now £72.50 a month, but £21 of the £24.50 saved is down to me cancelling Sky Sports. In essence he gave me a poxy £3.50 a month discount. This is what you get for having their full package for over 13 years, having HD and multiroom and home phone and broadband with them??? Errrr I don't think so.

After reading lots of posts, i decided to ring Sky last night, and i said i had heard various people getting 50% off for 12 months, and as i have been a customer for years and years, i would like this offer, i also said i had looked at Virgin costs which appeared cheaper.
Well they basically said these people are telling a lie about the 50% and no way is Virgin cheaper, i had to them give them examples of costs with Virgin which they said was also not true.(I did in fact make up costs as i was put on the spot)
At the end of a very long conversation, i asked to cancel but the lady just wouldnt give in, eventually she did, even though they did offer 25% off (I currently pay £55 for all channels) plus HD with an extra box for additional £10.25.
I am hoping to ring next week saying i would like to come back, but i am not sure they will offer any more as the lady was very insistent no one gets a better deal than this.
  • Just been back onto them. Said I feel like what you gave with one hand i.e £11.50 discount on the line rental, you've taken back with the other hand by upping my movies by £8 a month. He assured me that this isn't the case, and that I'm getting the full £11.50 a month discount on my line rental, and that "this is the very best deal Sky can offer" and "you're very lucky to be offered it". He suggested I remove HD, multiroom and movies taking my bill down to around £40 a month, however I declined and quit. At which point he tried to put the fear of god into me by telling my world was about to implode :D well, not quite but that the recordings will cease, the box might not receive a satellite signal anymore after cancellation and that the phone and internet will cease within 10-14 days and that as I'm in a Sky area my phone number is lost and I'll now need a new line from another provider for which they'll charge. Hey ho. I am however, a hundred quid a month better off!! :D

I called Sky Friday as I wanted to get Fibre (my current broadband is 0.3mbps!) and managed to get line rental for only £3 a month for the next 12 months, now paying about £45 for TV (inc. Sports), phone and fibre optic broadband including line rental, I guess it is who you end up speaking to?

Don't try to get too much in one call. Make sure you are talking to retentions, you need to say you want to cancel and tell them you don't feel any loyalty and that it's all new customer offers. If you've got Talk, Broadband & TV you'll generally get offered either £3 line rental for a year or 20% off TV for 12 months or 25% for 6. Take one of these. Then call back a couple of days later and say it's not a good deal, can they offer a better deal or you're cancelling. They'll probably offer the other deal. Take it then cancel a few days later. A week or so before your cancellation date you'll likely get a call offering 50% off Tv for a year!

Or you could just tell them straight away that the small offer isn't good enough and that you're cancelling, then get a call either before the cancellation date or shortly after with a good offer.

It might be tricky for me cos I'll be looking to consolidate my services and get a good offer but we'll see.
  • I have been with sky for 6.5 yrs, and have and old white sky+ box. It has an annoying intermittent fault where it switches off and won't come on again. Called today to ask about a new box. I am on the full tv phone and broadband which, following an offer has now levelled off at £74 pm for all channels inc movies and sports.
Went straight thru to cancellations. They offered me a new had box for delivery of £15 and half price hd, an additional £5p/m. I said no, the other offer was no HDTV channels and the box for a (bargain apparently) £29 plus £15 delivery. No discount offered. I said no thanks I'd like to cancel. No other offer made, told my broadband and phone will be £25 for a couple of months till I can cancel that in feb. When I said that's ok I'll go back to bt in feb ta, they seemed non plussed. They did offer to send me an engineer for £15, I again said no, not only do I not have the time to wait in for one but its an intermittent fault and I'm not going through that nonsense with them. So I've cancelled, I think sky have had enough money from me over the years so I look forward to life without it and trying something new, like a smart tv, with the money I save!
I don't expect to hear from them, I think they are getting sick of people haggling, but I'll let you know.
