I currently have Sky Entertainment package at £26 per month. My broadband and phone line is with BT. Line rental is £14.60 a month. Broadband and calls package is £14.00. The total I pay is therefore approx £55. However I frequently go above my monthly usage for broadband and I am charged £5 extra for each additional 5gb. My bill can sometimes be in excess of £70-£80 which I know is too much.

I'm now thinking of combining my phone line, broadband and tv with the same company.

I'd prefer to stick with Sky (as my tv aerial is not working so assume BT tv would not work).

Should I threaten to leave Sky saying I have better deal with BT (in the hope they give me a better offer If I threaten to leave) or should I be honest with Sky and asked for a price for a combined package.

I'm happy with the tv package I have now but would prefer unlimited broadband.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Phone Sky Retention discuss leaving the tv for BT.

Do you have black sky+HD box? if so then you can get on-demand now for terrestrial channels: bbc, itv, ch5 with ch4 coming next year.

If you only have white Sky+ then you will need to take an additional room and/or HD pack to get a discount on the box cost and install cost. The amount of discount on this will depend on your tenure. You will probably not get this offered with the below tel & bb discount but no harm in asking.

Best deals for switching to Sky on tel & bb are currently £10 for basic phone (weekend calls) and unlimited bb for 9 months with free wifi anytime+(on-demand) adaptor. Free setup and keep same number, you might have to pay £2.18 for Sky hub delivery. Reverts to £22 (£14.50 line rental & £7.50 unlimited bb) normal price after the 9 months.

or same tel & bb for £10.50 for 12 months with £3 line rental offer. Free setup and keep same number, you might have to pay £2.18 for Sky hub delivery. Reverts to £22 (£14.50 line rental & £7.50 unlimited bb) normal price after the 12 months.

If you want unlimited calls then add £5 to these figures.

Lastly there are many no offer teams operating at Sky now (it's where the company is intent on heading, but still only in trial stage) so if the advisor you speak to cannot do these deals just leave it a few days and try again.
  • OK, I just tried to haggle my package and it got me nowhere! I've been a customer for over 10 years and have tv, phone and broadband. The only I got was to downgrade my package, great. Unfortunately she went ahead and cancelled it, I really thought she wasn't actually going to do it - I was a bit gobsmacked they would let me go so easily. So what now, I do want my service just thought I'd be able to get a deal for a few months to help me through Christmas :( if I phone back will they reinstate it as it was now they have the upperhand??

You can call back right up to the cancellation date and say you have changed your mind. Then they will remove the cancellation request.

Sit tight and see if they call. If they dont then call back and say you dont want to cancel. Nothing lost either way.

That's what happened to me I stuck it out until a few days before I was to be cut off. I phoned saying that I had got prices from all the competition and before I decided who gets the job I would like to know what Sky could offer me. They said 50% off for 12 months straight away without any haggle, and I also got a free HD box to upgrade my Multiroom for £15.

Now that you have cancelled don't give in, I am sure you will get a discount out of them if you wait.

    regards Duplada

I've also got sky line rental. Does dialling 151 go through to sky?
    Did not realise that...
151 takes you to whomever you pay your line rental to, in sky's case, it takes you to the options menu!
  • I managed to get Sky line rental, unlimited broadband and anytime calls down from the £27 they were going to be from 1st Dec to £15 for 9 months. Here's how - I call EE and told them I wanted to switch to their £24 a month package for line rental and unlimited calls and broadband (I am a Tmobile Customer so get it at this price). As I didn't have a MAC code from Sky, EE transferred me straight through to Sky and I asked for a MAC code. They asked me why and I said I was exercising my right to terminate without notice due to the detrimental 18% line rental increase. They put me straight through to detentions. I emphasised that I had already spoken to EE who had offered me the £24 package (plus I used Quidco for cash back). He asked me what my reason and I told him again about terminating due to line rental increase. He put me on hold for a few minutes and come back with the £15 offer for 9 months. I expressly asked if I needed to enter into a new contract to get this and he said no. I confirmed I would take this deal and it was immediately applied to my account. I then called EE to cancel with them during the cooling off period. Job done!

I was in the same boat & after phoning last week I was told no deals ( I have had 1/2 price for nearly 3 yrs now) so I just said ok thanks and bye bye! this morning I got a letter from sky,
1/2 price tv for 12 mths plus £50 cashback, £27 for all movies & sky sports, I phoned back enquiring about multi room, free hd box and free installation £10.50 a month. £50 credit added to my account straight away. Hang on in there.

ps you could try calling the number they gave me & give it a try 08442 410 669 just tell them you got it through the post.
  • Rang Sky on 12th October to try and get a deal as couldnt really afford it at moment and have been a customer since the first day of Sky tv. Was offered nothing so said I'd cancel which the lady on the end of the phone said ok and put me on 31 days notice. Due to the fact we didnt have enough in the bank to cover the final installment a few days later we cancelled the direct debit. Sky cut us off about 10 days ago I phoned up today and paid the final installment and asked if we could have sky turned back on until nov 13th which is the last day of our 31 days notice. I was told that because we cancelled the direct debit and had our signal blocked we could no longer have it turned on unless we set up a new direct debit and took an additional 31 days notice. This seems a bit harsh considering we have now paid up to nov 13th and we only didnt pay at the time because we couldnt afford it at the time. The way I was spoken to I dont think they're coming back with any offers. What should I do as I cant say I've enjoyed only having freeview and miss the sports channels. Am thinking of switching to bt vision with sky sports is that a good idea or is there still a chance sky would come back with an offer.
