Hi Im upto 11 months due to ring for a retention deal tomorrow. Previously got 50% off skysports world for year twice box is old nedds replacing. Wondering how to bargain with them. Is it worth mentioning the £10 wireless adaptor and as its content driven saying that theyll easily make the 50% reduction in sky sports back off me thru on demand sales. Is that too cheeky to say that. Last year they rung me back 6 days before canc date and offered me 50%.0

Hi folks – apologies if this is long winded :¬) A Virgin Media enquiry. I currently have:
TV XL on an old cable box (inc free ESPN, no other sports, film or premium channels)
Phone XL (unlimited anytime landline calls) plus caller display and line rental
BroadBand 20mb (after the recent doubling) using my own router
I’ve been with NTL / Virgin Media forever. I’m not tied in to a particular contract other than a month’s notice period. After alleged customer triple discounts the above comes to £55 a month. So for comparison over the next 18 months I’ll pay £990.
If I was a new customer starting an 18 month contract based on the Premier Collection I’d get:
TV XL with a Tivo 500gb box, plus an extra HD box
Phone - unlimited weekend calls (happy to downgrade from anytime here as we’re not using it that much)
Broadband 60mb with a new superhub
This would come to £58.90, plus caller display at £2.25 makes £61.15.
But the first six months for a new customer is half price (not including the line rental), plus there’s an offer online for a further £70 discount. So over the 18 months contract a new customer will pay 6 months at £38.63, then 12 months at £61.15. That’s £965.58 before the £70 off, which comes to £895.58
Over 18 months I’d pay nearly £100 less, getting broadband 3 times faster, and get an additional box. I’d lose some free phone calls. VM tell me I can’t have the 6months half price or the £70 off (new punters only), but will move me to a new 12 month contract on £61.15 month.
So, after all this rambling, my question is: Is it even worth giving notice to quit in the hope of a better offer? Do VM retentions make offers like Sky sometimes do whilst in your notice period?
Thanks for your time0 -
I called up Sky, inspired by Martin's TV show the other day.
Our bills were £110 pcm.
-Broadband
-Talk Anytime
-SKY TV - one White + BOX, one Sky+ HD box w/ Entertainment Extra, Sky Movies, Sky Sports, ESPN & HD package.
I called up and said it was too expensive, liked the service, wanted to keep all that we have, and we were immediately offered £20 off each month = £240 over the year! I am delighted with that for now. Didn't want to push them too hard and end up with nothing on my first haggle.
Can anyone let me know if this is now a good deal or if I can certainly push for more in the future? From experience?
I'd appreciate constructive comments.
Thanks :money:0 -
As has been said before in this thread, the best way to get a 'deal' is to cancel and wait for them to get in touch.
You can also easily check your monthly payment easily online on the Sky website.0 -
Or even by checking your bank statement to see what's going out on your DD each month...you can't money-save unless you first know what you are spending. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

We've been with Sky for at least 8 years and currently have sports, movies and entertainment extra, HD and multiroom. Our bill is £69 a month which is just too much at the moment. We've been messed around by orange so are looking to change our broadband. My hubby spoke to sky last night who flatly said they could only offer us 6months free broadband and nothing else, no discount on the TV services at all.
Is it worth trying and trying again? Feel rather disillusioned that after being with them some long they couldn't give us any discount at all (we cant go with virgin as we're not in their area)0 -
Hi all!
I hope I am in the right place as I am speaking as a 'new' Sky TV customer. This is because I have cancelled Sky TV within the last few months but the enquiry is about a new house we are moving to, so we are classed as new.
Ok so we are wanting Sky V, BB Unlimited and line rental/calls ( the weekend package for free calls is fine as we rarely use the landline to call out). This totals £43.50 pm and carries a £10 one off charge for the line rental I believe. I was offered £7/25 discount (half price line rental) for the 12 month period, when I was talking top someone on their 'live chat' facility. He was trying to get me to cough up the £10 connection fee now but I don't have it so I politely declined and said I hoped the offer would stand when I have the £10.
This may sounds 'tight' but is there any way I can get the package with no one-off fee? Only because we move in 2wks and I can't pay the £10 until 2 days before we move, which will delay us having the services.
Also- seems they are offering a £25 M&S voucher atm and not the £100 I saw elsewhere on the site. Is that right? Is there any way I can get all of this (ideally inc the half price line rental for 12m), but avoid paying the £10 fee, or have it added to the first bill and get the ball rolling with connection to all 3 services?
Finally, how do I go about using a cashback site when I join Sky? I will look but if any of you can offer this info in simple terms when replying that would be good.
Thanks! Mrs D x0 -

I have been with Sky 5 years, I called up yesterday and like others who have commented in recent days, have been given the 20% discount each month for 12 months. I have exactly same package as you but with phone + broadband too - I got them down to £90 from £110 yesterday. It's still a lot but great saving over the 12 months. I must add that I can't switch to VM as do not have cable access here - and I think Sky have sussed that out - so next time I'm just going to use the Freeview card! Quoting an 'alternative provider' got me far!
I would contact them again, let them know that you are wanting to add broadband and have been offered a great deal for all the services you currently have with Sky + broadband for a cheaper deal with an 'alternative provider'. Tell them you enjoy Sky and wanted to see if they could better the offer.
Good luck!0 -
Evening guys. I'm pondering getting Sky+HD but as a new customer to their TV services. I'm with them for phone and broadband which is working very well but I'd like to know if it's possible to haggle the price of the TV services down based on me being a current customer of their other services.
I'm planning on getting the entertainment and sports packages with the HD 2TB box.
Has anyone been in this position recently?

If you are adding the HD pack as well then you will get the 2tb box for £49, however it's unlikely they will budge on the cost of the tv packs as the box is subsidised at this price.0
